I am in need of building a Workstation Desk around an XITE-1, 2 LCD Monitors, a pair of Behringer Truth Studio monitors, and a 61 or 88 key AKAI MPK, all from scratch.(Home Depot)
I particularly need the XITE to be Rack mounted or maybe just hidden from view.
Anyone have any DIY sites they could point me to?
Or any pointers or suggestions?
Thanks

Definately Rack the XITE along with any other rack mount gear you have. I use SBK cases from memory.
Re: DIY: Making a Composers Desk around XITE
where do you live i make furniture and units and can do drawings
first what material are you going to use
mdf is cheapest with real wood trim
make modular box section units that are 19"rack size
then you fit a worktable to these then on top you make several smaller boxes to house more gear then another work top this is where your monitors sit in the middle then
to the left and right sit your nearfield monitors at ear level when standing or sitting these sit on acoustic foam
i make the work tops and the side panels out of tung and grove real wood flooring i have a festool tenoning machine which is hand held and i put several into each strip and glue to gether with clamps this makes them strong i cut to size router the edges and sand smooth i then fit the panels to the mdf all mdf panel are hiden
so that you only see the finished wood i then i oil it
it looks really nice
i did my sons wardrobe computer workstation like this all built in with maple and gloss black doors ill take some photo,s to show what i mean
you can make it any size and shape give me the size of the location where you want to install it and ill design it for you
all electrics are hidden and all conections for your equipement go through patch bays including adat and audio and midi so that yo ucan plug every thing from the front
even add lcd touch sensitive panels in the worktop as controllers

Re: DIY: Making a Composers Desk around XITE
Well, I do want to keep it simple, the Xite really will be the only thing racked, I may need a few extra spaces just in case, but this will be small. I had plan to have the XITE-1 possibly tucked away, in case of any unforeseen misfortunes, so to make it difficult to nab before the alarm goes crazy. I have an Argosy Console housing our DM4800 in the Main studio, so I'm looking to mimic the build quality, not to the tee but at least as sturdy.

Oh, rubish
...Uncle Sam gave me the finger, so Xite will be possibly a year or more away, as well as the DIY desk.
I still have my eye on a 15 dsp card though, should suffice.
