Strong extra audio pc in the studio - how would you use it?

I just got an extra older desktop pc for my studio from someone who bought a new pc and didn't need it.

I equipped this pc with a Creamware Luna2 card (just modulars 1 and 2 on it), and a behringer ada8000 8io adat interface of its own.

It is also using a Yamaha An1x as its own dedicated midi interface.

Audio is connected to the main studio pc via spdif (stereo master) and adat (various patching options here). Also pcs are connected with midi.


Now.... how would you use this pc? I don't want just another clone of my main pc. I was thinking maybe to run some dedicated sampler on it like gigasampler for example, or maybe turn it into a crazy reaktor machine. The thing is, I would like it to be usefull in daily work on music not just something for experimenting with. Maybe run something like Absynth on it?

Would love additional workflow/usage ideas

I've got a Scope Prof and 2 Projects in one computer and my old Pulsar 1 in another connected via ADAT. Thought perhaps I could use the extra 4 DSP's in some way for synths or effects but haven't really needed it so far. What I might do in your situation if you have a good amt of DSP's in your primary machine is use that for synths and reverbs or other high DSP devices and use the Luna for primary mixing/mastering and low DSP devices. I would do that if I had an extra gen 2 card and a better computer. Poly voices on the synths is what eats up my DSP's.

For a dedicated sampler machine stay away from Gigastudio. No support, totally dead project, with no future development in site.
I really like my friends Reason NN-XT stuff with Redrum.
I also can speak volumes about EMU software and their ZPlane filters. They have decades of hardware experience, and seemed to have converted to software really well.

Yeah Reason or Kontakt / Komplete would be a good way to go.

NI has great sample players, but sampling is a nightmare and requires wqay too much crap.
But as a playback for instruments, it's the best way to go.

I figured since I have purchased some of Faxi's CD's I kind of coubt he will be doing gay love songs or orchestral music...

Well since Giga was in the running, I wouldn't say Kontakt was more gay !

Otherwise Reason - w/ Alligator, Dr OctoRex etc - perfect for electro (and sample recording in-built)

But I kinda think you would run that on main DAW w/ Scope so you can get fully tempo-sync'ed / transport control via rewire, then Scope Synth on the second machine which only requires MIDI-IN =>Audio Out

So that could push Komplete high up the list - which is way more than just for orch arrangers.
