yea, it is the most surgical frequency tool in scope..
the draw tool needs to be fixed... misses some moves
also... what about the latency. could it be avoided somehow?

also...... sorry for my stupid question but.. what is the main philosophy of it? effect basically?

That's what I was thinking. Looks like it can separate frequencies with some serious sharpness.
Would be great for extraction.

thank you very much for the first point;
but its also the answer to your last point;
use wherever other eqs fail_
------
the prinzip is:

collect some samples;
do a fft;
calculate filter;
convolute filter with audiostream;
da a ifft;
--
the first step is what makes the latency;
the better the frequency resolution - the higher the latency;
there is no way around this_
but its a mastering tool so latency should not matter_
-------

the drawtool is sending async signals;
if you move faster than the asyncupdaterate you are able to /jump/ over a band or more yes;

but a cosmetic surgeon does not move too fast with a scalpel either;
//i hope at least-

where is the best spot to put it in the signal flow?

what are you trying to do?
equalize an effected sound, or effect an equalized sound? or use it as an effect?
the answers to the above questions tell you where to place it in the chain.

or is there something i miss?

Nicely put. I was just wondering whether to put it before a mastering device such as optimaster, or after, as it is pretty transparent

personally, i think the main purpose of a mastering compressor is the maximize the loudness, or reduce the dynamic range of a track so that it plays well on the common playback systems. i would want to have the piece equalized before that final step. if you're talking about mastering, the idea is to remove bumps in the response to get a flat reading from about 60hz-8 or 10k, or something in about that range. that way you get listenable playback most anywhere. this is as opposed to using an eq as a sound sculpting effect. i'm sure that it can be used either way.

that's just my thinking. whatever works well is good. limiting the track will make certain things pop out a bit more, but i think if a multiband radically changes the frequency balance, then maybe you're not using it correctly. for that reason, i don't see a purpose to re-eq the track after the final limiter stage. then again, if it sounds really cool, who am i to judge?

Grest advice Gary, thanks. I'm now thinking of all the uses it may have, in the studio and live!

Sorry, i just re read gary's post. You're right, it wouldn't help a live set up.
