I liked this one, but there are a couple of obvious editing flaws where cymbal decays are cut short - like to segments of audio where pasted together which do not sound in the same "sonic space" - happens at 1:05 or so and 2:16 - maybe it is just off timing on the crash though . . .

good other than that - good contender for the contest

Thanks for the comment, yes - I did a lot cut&paste in the drumtracks. The snareroll at 1.05 and 2.16 is the intro to the original drumtrack, the reason for the lack of "sonic space" -

You play one mean guitar, Bizarre. I need to let my guitarplayer hear this, he will wanna do a duel with you,.
Only little comment I have is that I would have liked the synths be less "in the background". Or it could be the mp3 that does this. I like leading synths up front.
Good job, Bizarre.

ditto on the synths being a little in the backround.just an impression tho.good job.seen a lot of people who thought that they were going to do something like this, but doing it always seemed to be a different matter.congrats on being a finisher!

thanx for the nice reviews
The reason I chose to place the synths kind of "behind the drums" is that I was so thrilled with the drumtrack  and I wanted this to be kind of a "drummers tune"

This is for sure, one of my preferred songs here in the Planet Z Music Forum. I love it as is. There’s this magical something that keeps me going on and on listening at it without restrain or thoughts coming to my mind but the joy of listening. Love it!

Nevertheless, I guess I’m becoming quite deeply involved in the way we mix, EQ, copy-past, use FXs, introduce the song itself, etc., and so I’m paying attention to detail and to technicalities like never before in my life. I’m learning high-speed without stop thanks to that.

So, despite the fact I love this song I want to search for perfection and understanding:

The guitar is a bit unattended for me. I would like it slightly louder with a stronger presence. The guitar’s sound BTW is great, very warm but lucking something, perhaps a little bit of delay and Reverb too, to my taste of course. The synths a slightly far away and their timber do not help for them to be heard cos the drum is taking almost all their places at once. The drum sounds are fantastic, to say the least. Nevertheless, don’t like much the cymbals you’ve used, they luck… I don’t know… let’s say cutting through the mix a bit more, perhaps through a High Shelf, but not through loudness.

The song gives me a slight remembrance of the Mahavishnu Orchestra when the guitar goes in unison with the melody of the synth, when you bend it I mean, which is really a nice FX and extremely effective.

Nestor - thanks for the nice words :smile:I'm very happy about this being one of your preferred songs in this forum ... wauw !
about the drums, it's from Niel Conti's cd, so I couldn't choose cymbals, had to take what he played. Have you noticed that it's different tracks playing left/right ? I had to do some stretching sometimes to get the tracks to sync, I found the snare easiest to do this to. I think the lack of overall timbre is because I had to do quite a few bounces, my system was overloaded. I would indeed like the guitar louder too, but no matter what I did, tried to "filter" the instruments with eq, tried to pan the synth a bit to the left and the guitar a bit to the right, no matter what, the guitar killed the synth so I settled for what I could. Maybe I should have chosen another synth sound, but I liked that one
And dude do I feel a bit proud that it gives you a slight remembrance of Mahavishnu orchestra ... it's part of the music I listened to when I was growing up ... well ... still do

So did I. I still like and will alwyas like the Mahavishnu.

Now I understand, you have the same problem than me, you have to be boucing to add all the instruments you need to add... gosh.. this is a killing problem! I know!

But, do you edit it somehow after having recorded your separate tracks? I mean, do you actually go into an editor and edit your Wav.s giving them mor punck and so on, then you put them back into your Sequencer? Is this your way? This is what I do.

I guess in the future we could do something toguether, cos we have a similar background style, if you want.

I've considered editing my bounces in a wave editor but have never actually done it, I find it hard to edit a sound without having the rest of the music to compare it to, u know, when you are eq'ing instruments to sound "at there own frequencys " they tend to sound pretty shitty at there own
Sure thing I would like to make some music with you. Are you using ICQ or something ? what sequencer ? do you have any ideas at the moment or ... ?
Actually I'm working on two things and have stalled on both, if you wanna listen and give it a try, please e-mail me.
