Re: WTB Want to buy - Creamware Noah EX. UK / Europe
There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. These are things we don't know we don't know.
Re: WTB Want to buy - Creamware Noah EX. UK / Europe
Looks like this one is a NOAH not a NOAH ex and I doubt you can find any expansion card ...
Re: WTB Want to buy - Creamware Noah EX. UK / Europe
Thanks guys. Yes, I had my eye on this one already, but sadly (I double checked with the seller) it is not an EX version and I would prefer the 4 part multi. As a temptation for someone who may be on the verge of selling but just can't let go, I have a number of synths which I may swap/part exchange for the right unit:
Midibox Sammichsid
Hardsid Quattro PCI card (PC only)
Cheetah MS6 multitimbral analog synth module
Novation Nova
Yamaha RM1X synth/sequencer
Roland SH32
Thanks!

get a Scope pro card or an XITE-1D.
much better value for the money and dynamite live.....

Re: WTB Want to buy - Creamware Noah EX. UK / Europe
I really wanted the Noah for the VA synths rather than effects or recording, so would the SP or the XITE still be better value in that instance (genuine question)? I can't find any available second hand and they are over £1500 new as opposed to approx £500 for a second hand Noah EX.garyb wrote:get a Scope pro card or an XITE-1D.

Re: WTB Want to buy - Creamware Noah EX. UK / Europe
The Scope Pro or Xite-1D solution would certainly provide you most of the VA included in the NOAH (excepted the Prodyssey, Pro-One and 6-Strings which are optionnals) and would provide some nice other devices like the Mod III, the UKnow 007 regarding the VA.
Xite-1D would be the most future proof choice regarding host OS compatibility and also regarding power available.
Just as a reminder the Scope Pro is more powerfull than the NOAH EX and the Xite-1D is more powerfull than the Scope Pro.
Then you will be forced to have a computer running to be able to use them.

Re: WTB Want to buy - Creamware Noah EX. UK / Europe
yes, the cards and the XITE are a better value, have many times the capabilities, can be used as synth/FX modules(you can easily mate the XITE to a 1 or two space computer and case and put them in a rack case. then you have a SUPER synth module, unmatched in your neighborhood). it might be a bit more money, but it'll do so much more and be useful so much longer that it's really a no-brainer....
Noahs are cool though....

That's the reason why I use all of them (Noah, PCI card, ASB, Xite-1)
Re: WTB Want to buy - Creamware Noah EX. UK / Europe
yeah buy them all. let's spam this thread!
sorry.

LOL! OK - maybe you can help me decide based on what I like to use already:garyb wrote:yeah buy them all. let's spam this thread!![]()
sorry.
Waldorf Blofeld (bread and butter synth - I love my Blofeld)
Waldorf Pulse (bass sounds)
Cheetah MS6 (bread and butter synth, nice PWM)
Korg ER-1 (glitch drums)
Korg Microsampler (sampled drums)
C64/Sammich (chip sounds, arps, PWM)
Novation Nova (bread and butter synth and used as an effects unit)
Roland SH32 (pads)
I haven't heard any of the Creamware stuff 'in the flesh' (I live in the middle of nowhere in the UK). Does is compare well with the above? Can any of the synths sound as snappy as the Pulse for bass sounds? Could I look to replace some of the above synths once I get a Noah/Xite? I guess I could always sell the Noah on and upgrade if I really fell in love with the sound?...
Thanks for confusing me!

Re: WTB Want to buy - Creamware Noah EX. UK / Europe
Having all of these, what do you use your Noah for specifically? Where does it shine where the others don't?HUROLURA wrote:That's the reason why I use all of them (Noah, PCI card, ASB, Xite-1)
Re: WTB Want to buy - Creamware Noah EX. UK / Europe
Noah is a synth module specifically. it's compact and self contained. it runs on the same dsp chips that the Scope cards and XITE run on and runs the same synths.
Sonic|Core and Creamware stuff doesn't have a "sound", per se. rather, synths in Scope products are whatever they are modeled after. they all have very different caracters. they are not like typical plugins, they are like real instruments. there are a lot of different sounds to Creamware S|C (Scope) products, depending on what the programmer wanted. yes, you can replace all those products with an XITE-1 and have much more than you lost, but all of those products have some tricks that are uniquely their own, and that you might need to discover to make something in the SDK or Modular that worked the same. since you already have those sounds, keep them, unless you're just sick of them. having a quick and satifying way to get the sound that you like is the best. i'd say that you could do without that stuff and still have too many cool things to play, with an XITE or a couple of 14/15dsp cards. Scope is so awesome that even a product like the Noah, which bankrupted what was once a successful company, Creamware, is cool.
all Scope products can run multiple devices and for the most part the same devices. the more powerful the processing, the more stuff it can do. so the XITE can do more synths with more polyphony and more processing than a Scope card and then than a Noah.(try typing that 5x)
the Scope cards and XITE have a modular synth if you are into synthesis, and there are several makers of modules, so most anything that can be done with hardware synthesis can be done in the same way in Scope. there is a ton of processing that can also be done.
the Noah is more specifically about several models of classic and a few cool new synths that are part of the Scope(cards and XITE) platform. the idea was to replace the corresponding hardware on stage. it's more limited than the cards or the XITE, but it does what it's supposed to pretty well. if the program and patch changes were faster and easier to choose via midi, it would've been one of the best performance synths of all time. in it's own way, it kinda is, if you need a Pro One, Prophet 5, Minimoog Vocorder and some other cool synths. where a Noah can do 4 synths at a time with some processing, the XITE-1 will run all of them, all at once and mix your band.

Re: WTB Want to buy - Creamware Noah EX. UK / Europe
Actually I had the same feeling as you have now.
My first contact with CreamWare/SonicCore gears was back in 2006 (I followed the scope history before and was most interested in the Modular but I couldn't afford it and only grab myself a clavia micromodular instead).
My main interest was for the NOAH as I have bettert feeling with hardware gears for which the host software is just a companion tool. At that time the last Noah Ex were sold out and I didn't succeed to buy one of the last. So I just decide to try the over road with a scope home + luna 2496 IO box ... then finally grab myself maybe the last "new" NOAH ex for sale in an internet shop 4 months later. The trouble is I tasted Scope technology with the Scope Home PCI board and could never stop using it ...
My main interest was for the NOAH VA plug-ins (MINIMAX, PRODYSSEY, PRO-ONE, PROFIT 5). So as the NOAH is a more fixed architecture gear, I still use them for VA synth and fed them in the Xite-1 where I can add some more FX and mix them with other synth not available on the Scope system only (Mod IV, old UKNOW 007, Saturn, FM 4, Paradox, C4T ...)
Before I jumped in the Xite-1 world the NOAH EX was used as a DSP saver for my Scope PCI system.
Now it is just a small additionnal plug-in provider and something I use for more straighforward playing (switch on and play) without even starting the computer(s). When I finally bought the Xite-1 my Scope based gears were already providing me similar DSP power as what is available under the Xite-1 rough but it was splitted among several hardware devices and computers (actually 3 of them) making the system integration a bit complex to handle.
Now the Xite-1 provide me something much more flexible and integrated, but I kept some of the previous gear as I found them some use (ASB for direct access sound design, Scope PCI for I/O, NOAH for direct 4 part setup at the touch of a power on button ...) and I am happy with that.
The Noah StepSeq (which I remote control from a couple of BCR 2000) is the only thing I miss on the Xite-1 but I have to look at the Wolf midi package which could provide me something more powerfull.

Re: WTB Want to buy - Creamware Noah EX. UK / Europe
In term of Xite-1 Power compared to NOAH Ex, just imagine you have 5 NOAH EX units under the same roof with more devices available and more FX, flexibler routing ...
Re: WTB Want to buy - Creamware Noah EX. UK / Europe
Guys, you are gems for taking the time to help me out here. Clearly I am going to just have to go away and read the manuals on these things now to get a true understanding of what is and is not possible!
5x the power of Noah means 20 part multitimbral?!
Do I want to have to turn on my PC before I can play a note?
Only I can make these decisions, I guess.
One final performance related question though: TIMING
I *really* hate sloppy MIDI timing and find that only a dedicated hardware sequencer, an old Atari ST, CBM Amiga or Cubase with the MIDEX 8 interface can cut it timing-wise. How is the timing handled on the PCI cards. Is it sample accurate like a VST? Have either of you experienced MIDI jitter/slowdown/sync problems with the cards? Is the MIDI timing on the Noah tight - can the CPU cope (unlike the Novation Supernova for example, which tends to choke after a few MIDI messages)?
I promise I'll leave you alone after this!

Re: WTB Want to buy - Creamware Noah EX. UK / Europe
Scope systems provide lower latency as VSTi as they do not relly on the host exchanging data back and forth with the IO as the IO are integrated with the DSP.
The NOAH should be seen as another MIDI hardware synth with the possibility to remote control/handle the sound design through the host remote software (Win XP).
Regarding the gear you already have, I also have a few VA including Waldorf MicroQ and a Novation KS-Rack.
Nice VA but I just feel the Scope gears sounds better. My overall feeling is that over VA just sound "colder" than what scope based synths provide. I keep the KS-Rack because of the easy access knob.
But sometimes mixing them is also nice.

Re: WTB Want to buy - Creamware Noah EX. UK / Europe
GAH! the more I learn, the less I know about this stuff!!! Is this a good compromise?
FS-Scope SP + Pulsar2 Card will also include a UAD-1 Card $600
Version 4.5 software
includes Modular synth
Does anyone know a good resource where I can compare specs etc? Really can't find anything that let's me know what synths would come with this (or any) version. I know all the Noah synths are free now (which is a plus), but what about these older cards - do I still have to buy synths for it?
Screw it - I'm gonna buy a soundblaster 64 instead!!!

Re: WTB Want to buy - Creamware Noah EX. UK / Europe
This would be a good starting point... as long as you have available PCI slots.
Just check that scope SP means a 14 or 15 DSP board (more power than a NOAH Ex then as this one "only" have 11 DSP, whereas NOAH has 7 DSP). It should be a first generation version.
The pulsar 2 board provide is a 6 DSP board (2nd generation board)
Both can work altogether thanks to 2 small cables called STDM which should be provided.
So this means you would get roughly the equivalent power of 2 NOAH Ex units.
The UAD1 is just something you could resale to buy some plugs.
Question regarding the plug available depends on the version of scope software activated with the board but the easiest would be to ask for the list of plug-ins activated on these boards and also the scope software version.
Another question is what OS you have on the host computer. Win 7 would need the Scope 5.1 upgrade that would cost you 239 € but would bring you the standard software which its tremendous amount of plugs, see there:
http://sonic-core.net/joomla.soniccore/ ... 21&lang=us
Instruments: Synthesizer and Sampler, Sampleplayer, Modularpatches, Arpegiator Minimax, Profit 5, B2003, Modular 2, Modular III, Vectron, Lightwave, Prisma, SB404, Poison, EDS 16i, EDS 8i, BlueSynth, EZSynth, miniscope, U KNOW 007, Vectron Player, Inferno, Arpeg01 STS-2000P, STS-3000, STS-4000, STS-5000
You would find there most of the NOAH synths with the only exception of Prodyssey, Pro-one and 6-strings which are still optionnal.

Re: WTB Want to buy - Creamware Noah EX. UK / Europe
bang for the buck, long term, the XITE is the best option, period.
the other options are great, too. what usually happens is that people don't want to jump right into the deep end of the pool, so they start in the kiddie pool and soon become frustrated because all the big fun is in the big pool. being in the water in the kiddie pool is still nice on a hot day, but you can't really swim laps....
sometimes it's much cheaper in the long run to have a plan, and to spend the money on the real thing even though it hurts more early on. the fact is that constantly buying less and then trading up is always more money in the end.
i think that the Scope card option is a much better choice than the Noah however, even though the Noah offers more immediate gratification. a Scope card or XITE has more of a learning curve since both do more, and you must still set up a computer(or laptop with the XITE).
