Re: Faux-Sampled Beat
hehe, I used to do something in a similar vain. Treating drum loops and etc to sound like samples is a daily thing for me still. I went as far as writing tunes to sample from, that was written like older funk classics and stuff you'd hear on ultimate breakbeats (the records series).
Speaking of just the drums, I think the snare's a bit too explosive for these sorts of samples tho.. also adding a bit of ghost notes on the snare might give it more of a "sampled from a loop and not just a bunch of one shot samples" feel. The groove is great.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad there is someone else out there doing the same thing. I'd love to hear some of your music. Did you check out the other Faux-Sampled beats on my youtube page? My favorite is the Faux-Sampled Boom Bap Beat. That one turned out really cool! I spend more time studying the original works that the 90s samples were taken from (i.e. classic jazz, soul, and funk) then actually making music! I love it though. Instead of diggin' through crates for samples, I just compose a few bars myself! Then I add a suite of vintage effects to make it sound like it was recorded, mastered, and pressed to vinyl. Then I sample it, chop it, and flip it! It's really a blast!kensuguro wrote:hehe, I used to do something in a similar vain. Re: Faux-Sampled Beat
I don't think any of my sample style stuff is on here any more, but check out some of the modular patches I made as tools for the degradation process.
Will pretty much fxck up any sound and make it lo-fi drum style (not bit/sample reduction, but more texture wise)
Features a randomize switch that gives it random settings and also settings to simulate scratch noise that you get when you scratch the snares too much and the vinyl looses its etching.

And of course now a personal classic, the VHS tape emulator:

personally a masterpiece demo

The device version by voidar, development stopped at beta, but the device works, just can't save presets.

Here are some tunes that kind of draw from "I'm just gonna compose the song to sample from" approach, except these songs are done as is. All very vintage styles, but these aren't treated to sound degraded.
