traveling back in time, back to pager

I've decided to get a 2 way pager since ATT service in NYC sucks so bad. It's quite remarkable how iPhone struck the US and other parts of the world as the most advanced cellphone and mobile application platform... and yet the value of is reduced to almost nothing when it fails to function as a reliable communications device. It's a mobile phone.. and if it can't be mobile, or can't be a phone, then it is just a bunch of circuits and chips.

So I've decided to turn back to pagers. A comparatively archaic device that is built to reliably receive data. From physicians to EMS service, the go to device seems to still be pagers, despite the rising trend of smartphones (iPhones) among hospital personnel. (though hospitals use boosters within the building to ensure reliable paging)

We'll see how it goes. The pager has yet to come in the mail, and I've yet to test its capability in the concrete jungle. I'd be curious to see how well it performs as a communications device versus a cellphone. It's a step back, but if I can be reachable, I could care less. Oh, did I mention my wife was unhappy because when she calls my phone it rings on her side, but does nothing on my end? $40 + $20 monthly to save me from that is well worth it.

I liked the pager when I had it. Cell phones don't really work at my house so I don't have one, plus my phone company requires me to have a land line for DSL and requires me to pay for voice on it. I ended the $5.00 a month tax on long distance by not having a long distance provider and I use Google Voice for free long distance. It's pretty cool. Where I live, often it's unreliable but recently it got better. I hope it stays working. Google Voice has a lot of bells and whistles. Of course, they record everything you say.

So you get paged, and where / how do you call back?
I wonder how many pay-phones are left in NYC.

...and the so-called problem with i-phone reception has a lot more to do with how ATT setup their network (half-assed at best).

It's amazing that when you collaborate with the Defense Industry and share technology related to tele communications, you are allowed to bring products to the market that dont have to work....
Can you imagine buying a hardware synth and having the developer blame the OS manufacturer, or the guy who made the circuits chosen and getting a pass...?

And whether or not we want to admit it. Women have a huge influence on our lives and decisions.
I was a shy skinny punk when I was 13 years old but had set my sites on having a certain girl who was 16 then as my lover ( in my dreams ). I stole expensive perfume for her every Valentines day, and Christmas and of course she had Football stars from High School picking her up in their Lemans and Vettes. But the fantasy of having such a fine creature drove me to excell.
I went to school, then to Soccer, then came home and woodshedded Hendrix until I passed out. I did this for years because of a silly fantasy.
Years later I saw her and invited her backstage when I was touring in the opening act for Rush, and Triumph.
I thanked her and told her everything, then she went and fucked the lead singer........
Oh well from that, and having Taz Di Greggorio, and Chuck Leavel smokin' my ass everynight for 2 years on the follwing tours, I became pretty good.

All of this stemmed from wanting to please women......
