I used an Eclipse 1U for pitch mod and found it was pretty cool for percussive attack material as the tails were decent, but you guys are playing sustained types of instruments and the best reverb effect for that is a unit that will melt the source material into the effect, or wrap around the sound.
These Eventides have a nice sound but they are strictly tail makers.
I can only suggest picking up a PCM70 on ebay where the user gets 21 days to make a decision, and then you can see what I mean, I doubt you'll return the unit. But in case you prefer the background wash of the Eventide, you simply return the PCM70 and claim it smelled like cigarettes or had a scratch on it you didn't like.
Hope I'm not offending anyone here, but I find any reverbs made since 1995 sound like IR's and don't wrap around the audio. Native is a perfect example of this too. And yes DSP reverbs also suffer from this, but at least with the STW Plate, Inverse and Ambience we can use stereo Aux's to help a little and the editing options are truly magnificient.
But I am stuck in my ways when it comes to Reverb. I would buy a Bricasti, but 3500 USD is just a little too steep for me, but that's what they use on the big jobs.
A PCM70 would flow in between the strings of that Guitar and you'd find you don't need 20 second decay times or massive room sizes. A splash goes a long way.

I still love the sound of the Guitar and the pedal, I am just a picky old fart..
I had a PCM70 back in the day, but unfortunately had to sell it at a point in time when I was broke (back in the dark ages).

It had GREAT tails!

500 USD on ebay. I paid 2300 USD back in last century when they were new. Ran it through my DMP7 and 16 bit Digital was King...
The DMP7 and QX-1 were made to last but Yamaha got smart and bought Steinberg.
Now they have little overhead and thousands of junkies to buy their upgrades....
And the Motiff is still the same PCM technology repackaged for 2 decades now.
You cant blame them, why make something that lasts when musicians are all a bunch of whiny cry baby cheapskates...Hook 'em on the juice and sit back count the cash..

unfortunately this 'Space' counterpart was recorded through an amp or camera mic...

the pricetag would suggest a difference (of course) but how big really ?

cheers, Tom
Yeah, I think Greg could answer this. Eventide does seem to care about their very high reputation so I am hoping it sounds the same. The Eclipse does have ADAT and S/PDIF so that would make a difference.

AFAIK the Space and Eclipse all carry the same algo's as their H-series units.

Yes, I've petitioned that SOME Scope developer somewhere come along and challenge themselves to building a big Even-Scope or Lexi-Scope for Xite.

In the meantime you can always daisy-chain a bunch of masterverbs and Scope effects to try to approximate the big DSP effect units.

Or mess around with Echo 3.5 and a long tailed verb.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

sure... and you could insert the Chorus Delay, or the Plate into it's feedback loop... :D

Mod IV seems a bit unstable atm, but it has some crazy stuff on board.
Imho all the building blocks for more 'strange' reverbs (in the widest context) are there, but it's demanding to route.
In that sense a readymade box can be more rewarding.
I once REALLY fu**ed myself up when NOT buying a specific Intellifex I found in commission at a dealer.
Later ended with a cheaper one that only got stock presets...
the first box was programmed terrifically by someone who really knew his job. Today I'd easily shell out 100 extra to get that one back.

cheers, Tom

Sometimes it's the hardware. My friend has a wall of analog synthesizer modules (all new) and they sound better than any synth I have heard; either hardware or software.

My initial review of Eventide SPACE Reverb:

This does not replace your normal reverb.

This effect is optimized for guitar but will work well with other triangular sounds such as strings and pads. It does not sound very good to me for square shaped sounds.

The really strange patches are best and will hypnotize you. Perfect for ambient work. I have to turn it off until I am mixing because this thing will just make me feel like I am on heavy drugs and it would be difficult to do anything. It's such a strong effect that I think of it as in instrument itself.

I will be putting a Lexicon MPX-1 reverb up for sale. True LexiChip (some algos are the same as PCM70) reverbs, plus a handful of other *simultaneous* effects such as modulation, delay, etc, and then a bunch of midi modulation, LFOs, and other patching allowed.

PM me if anyone is interested. I'm only selling because I've got a new family in the works, and so I'll just hang on to the SCOPE and build from there.

I should open another thread for the other gear... (Nord Modular G2, Emu 1616m, Alesis DMPro drum brain with Flash expansion for samples, and some really old MidiMan BiPort 2x4 serial interface). I'll put that up tomorrow.
