good evening
since my old pc blew up last week i decided to use both of my luna cards on my new mainboard, i would like to use the s/tdm bus. i`m sure i had the cable when i bought the 2nd luna card, but after so many years i will probably not find it anytime soon.
i have some old isa type sockets/jacks from the old atari 8bit days which look pretty close to what is needed. ( i am aware of esd issues and do not need any advise on how (not) to handle).
could any1 please confirm the s/tdm is a 1:1 connection without any crossed wires, which would be my suspicion. if so, it shouldn`t be too hard to build one? does any of You have successfully done it?
thank You for any feedback, have a nice weekend.

s/TDM cable pinout / diy?
Re: s/TDM cable pinout / diy?
welcome panaman
yes it's easy - and a good way to recycle old floppy cables and the like.
Just ripp-off as many strains as needed... and you can make your cable with an optimized length.
Only requirement is that both end connectors sit on a card to terminate the bus (the original cable had 3 connectors).
You can leave the middle one out for your 2 cards (obvious).
If your old cables aren't excessively long (less than 5 inches I'd guess) and 1:1 you could indeed use them.
Otherwise theplugs are known as circuit board connectors and regular stuff in an electronic supply store.
cheers, Tom

Re: s/TDM cable pinout / diy?
thank You so much i will try now this weekend.
while my older card is still on scope 3.1c, and the other on v.4, it will show whether both cards have to be on the same scope version. if not i`ll upgrade to version 5 soon, if yes i might find it a bit steep to have to pay twice and just try for the free v.4 license.
thanks again, have a nice weekend.

Hi there ,
one license is enough for both cards and for sure you should contact SC to get a keyfile for both.
Same goes for Ver 5.

Re: s/TDM cable pinout / diy?
if you have both cards in the same computer it doesn't matter which is licensed to what.
As Fokas mentioned, it's just the presence of the (respective) card that's checked.
There's no real difference in user experience between version 3.1 and 4.x - I frequently switched between those and didn't notice any significant difference. It's probably some internal stuff on the driver level that may be relevant in certain systems.
Version 4.5 is exactly 4.0 but had a couple of extra devices licenced (which doesn't matter today).
Scope 5 is indeed a very different thing, indicated by a new color scheme. There's a lot of stuff modified and it feels more responsive, at least that's my impression after a couple of days.
Imo you will have to request new keys for non-stock devices (which you may have) if you make the transition to version 5.
I've recently bought some stuff and they sent me both version 4 and 5 keys.
cheers, Tom

Re: s/TDM cable pinout / diy?
that`s all good news. now i only have to decide for which of my 2 luna cards i should license the v5.
for the newer, scope home, i had bought 2 effects packages. these are included in v5 anyways from what i understand.
my other card has a sticker saying luna v1.01, i guess it is a luna 1 then. if i licence that for v5, i would still have the effects packages with the other card and v4 if i ever decide to use the cards separately again, but the v5 would be licenced to the older card which is probably not good. kind of going around in circles here, maybe the demise of the pci slot on newer pcs will help with this decision in the end...

Re: s/TDM cable pinout / diy?
version 5 effects make no sense on a single Luna - it's even tight on a 6 DSP card.
I recently purchased 5.1 for the latter and found it almost filled with a guitar amp simulation and the SC Ambience effect.
While that may read humble it was in fact the most convincing fake of a real amp I ever attended, capable to keep up with the most expensive external solutions.
Added a Luna and that gave a reasonable amount of processing juice... plus an additional pair of analog IOs.
In your case a 6DSP Scope would add 2 Adat ports - the cards are pretty cheapo atm...
Afaik there is no difference in Luna cards, the naming is from marketing, as is PowerSampler, Elektra for the same devive.
cheers, Tom
