Between "different" (actually the right word should be something like "conflicting") interests, highlighted by discussions about the leadership of the mission currently still going on, I can see too the call to the status quo as common aim, even considering the "temperature" in the whole area, and beyond.
From the mediatic point of view, though, this war could look better than others: demonstrations of many people asking for kind of parliament/large representation, elections government, had been repressed in blood.
This people organized not just as an armed revolution but even as a foul proof of a democratic alternative government, requested the ONU intervention against a (well known) bloody tiranny.

Weapons trade is another point.
My country's governments used to come to terms with the "well known" during a less bloody age; (inquiries depict they probably also used and use to do kind of pacts with criminal organizations).
With gheddafi they authorized weapons trade in exchange for oil and, they said, surveillance on clandestine immigration.
Even due to our colonial past there, looks like gheddafi was permitted to negotiate using the carrot and the stick, even obtaining from the current gov a treaty by which the Italian gov commits itself to avoid to make its territory used for attacks against Libia. :(

Sure, we can consider it to have started long ago, but what you are about to see, has never been seen before. We are facing up the HARD part of it. Fire and violence are swallowing countries around, and we all know that there are many big interests from many wolf people, and they will take advantage of it.

Forget about the wars you have been used to see until now, this war is going to surpass everything that has ever occurred on earth yet in terms of weapons, mass destruction, amount of death people and number of nations involved. This is the biggest war mankind has even seen! Everything has been planned for a long time already, they are just carrying on with the plan now.

The Tea Party of Libya has taken 15 year old volunteers as long as their parents have permission slips.
The USA has promised no boots on the ground, but plenty of sandals and tennis shoes.

Is this the one where god and satan square of in a nail-biting suspenseful yet pre-determined outcome to be the match of all matches? At least we have heaven and maybe 72 virgins, a planet of our own, or for those less fortunate a large feast to look forward to.

I'd settle for one virgin.
I couldn't even get that on Earth in all of my years.

It was probably in 1986 (or some year later) when I saw them live here.
The same years of gheddafi's missile on Lampedusa; the same years of Chernobyl disaster.
Similar things recurring in history
I just hope current warfare isn't too much different from the past, since I'm quite close there

...and... since it looks like our government is progressively moving away from here (one quick example: Sicilian 'ragamuffin trains' and railways are getting really worst, while Italian are getting better), I should prefer Sicily to be annexed to the States, than to Lybia :D

The Chinese just purchased Libya and used the alliance to do their job.
It's their money that is paying for it.
What's really strange is if and when they invade Taiwan to repatriot those lost tribes of China, we will have to borrow the money from them just to fight them.??

I will definitely not be one of those that will enjoy seeing this terrible war to go on and on, it is the saddest thing possible, but as I see it right now, there is nothing to be done by us, the pariahs of life. It is already far too late to change this world and its interests; they have grown and spread deeply like tenebrous roots covering the earth in a hidden way, underneath our cognition, and the sinister powers of greed, covetousness, and yet again, the search for ABSOLUTE POWER, will not let it go. The only thing we can change is ourselves. This is the only part of the world we can truly change: ourselves.

@Nestor
I agree. What we can see of this war is likely just the tip of the iceberg.
But, whereas with icebergs we might calculate with few error the whole mass, here we can just have a short look under the surface, then try to figure out using imagination.
Just... immagination can anyway be jokefull.

Dude the whole scam with this is to let as many Arabs kill each other as possible, nothing more.
The EU, UN, NATO and USA says they're killing people in the name of human rights.??? :o
Then they try and kill Khaddafi to get the rebels worked up, then promise them weapons but never deliver them.
It's a big piece of flypaper designed to attract any Arab who wants to fight.
Then the powers that be will divvy out just enough ammo and weapons to let these guys decrease their numbers.
Obama talks peace with one hand and assasination of someone with another hand.
We have known where Bin Laden was for a long time.
It's a political chip. Kill him at the proper time.
My guess is he was preparing to move again and Obama figured get him now so he could score political favors during his new campaign.
lets face it.
Bin Laden became useles once we found his assets and stripped him of funding.
Killing an inactive " terrorist " stops nothing.
But Obama can pose for the cameras, etc.

LBJ would have made a hat out of Bin Ladens beard.

Jim, i don't quite agree with every statement there, but the one's i do agree with i find to be very perceptive.

for example:
Dude the whole scam with this is to let as many Arabs kill each other as possible, nothing more.
The EU, UN, NATO and USA says they're killing people in the name of human rights.???
and
It's a political chip. Kill him at the proper time.
i wouldn't say that Bin laden wasn't long dead, never existed, was/wasn't on dialysis or any other crazy thing. i don't know why there isn't any body or photos or why the spell Gh Kh Ke Kadaffi's name so many different ways or why an asshole like that is even in power(except when i see the kinds of assholes that run every other country). i'm just calling shennanigans on the whole mess.

It's all divide-n-conquer smoke-n-mirrors.

Nothing is as it seems.
