Old card upgrading

Post by Inferman »

Hello PlanetZ community.
I've been looking for Scope Pro card or 14dsp booster.
Finally I've found one but the owner says it's some kind of old "truncated" Pulsar (PowerPulsar or similar) card - it has 14 dsp but there are few plugins only for it's Scope v.4.0. I mean there are no Mixer Package 2, STS 5000, Modular 3 and other standard plugins.

So could You calm me down? )) If I buy this card and make upgrade OS to v.5.1 will it work exactly as Scope Pro card with whole 50+ standard plugin's package, Synth and Master pack and new LX-bundle?

Thanx a lot.

P.S. One more question - I've read in manual the best way to connect 2x14dsp card is 5-STDM cables way, but Ralf from SonicCore told me if I use more (than 2 STDM) the number of channels between the cards is getting better, but also more basic power is needed for the Scope OS so he would try only 2-STDM cables connection. How so? What the difference and what exactly mean "it needs more power for Scope OS"? Any plugin will eat more dsp if I connect cards with 5 STDM?

Thanx for explanation again :)

yes, it's the same card.

yes, Ralf knows what he's talking about.
everything you do with the cards takes power. more connections=more things to keep track of=more resources used. there may or may not be an advantage to more s/tdm cables. it depends on how you use things...

garyb, thank You for reply.

Could You tell me in general what the differences and when it's suitable to use more STDM cables?

About how I use things... Well, my project template is 24 ch. SpaceF module mixer (12SL+12SL) it goes to Router 247, and finally to Mix5.
Scope plugins are in internal mixer cells, general effects are in Mix5 AUX cells.
1st aux in Mix5 is the MAIN MIX - it has MultiFX plugin with premastering plugins chain.

Actually that's all ))

:) well, if you're running out of s/tdm connections, trying more cables is the natural thing to do. the extra resources used are not that extreme. there ARE limitations. there are timing issues between dsps and the further thay are from each other(like on different cards or different ends of the card), the more those issues come into play. when you have a big device that spans several dsps, it may not be able to load if the available dsps are too distant from each other. that's why Scope offers the global optimisation, a chance to reshuffle the load and make things fit better(pthd doesn't allow this). this is the reason that you can't always load 100% of the dsps. i couldn't say what, exactly will happen in your case. most likely, the extra cables would help.
