Re: UN intervenes Libya now
May be too little, too late. Fucking tortoise UN. I wonder if they don't want to keep Gaddafi in place. No fly zone should have been in place weeks ago.
Re: UN intervenes Libya now
just my own personal here..... but...
is this not a problem for the Libyians to deal with in their own way. I mean why are we getting involved again.
Yeh I know Gadaffi probly aint a nice guy, if you believe all that is said by the 'ministry of truth' that we call the media, and I accept that lots of cilvillians including women and children will die, but is that not the cost of freedom. It sucks to say this but I think its true.
'We' have no right to get involved. There are lots of nasty governments but we aint in the game of supporting revolutions to overthrow them, no in fact we tend to really like some of them. Saudi for example. And then what about Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe)
And more to the point how are say the British people gona wear it when protests against the massive government spending cuts are met with an agreesive militarised police force. That actually kill people on the streets of London (seriously it happens in London too.... ask the Tomlinson family about such things) When this is exactly the 'behaviour' that the British government condemn the Colonel for.
Will the U.N. set up a no-fly zone over Britain so the people there can succesfully overthow the corrupt system there that masquerades as democracy, whilst really is a one party system with three heads all sharing a bed with the regular visits from the bankers and big buisiness men.
Bah it all stinks
Corruption and sleaze everywhere. There must be more money to be made from this than from just leaving things as they are or 'we'd' never be involved. But then BP does has a shortfall of cash to make back. Damn that mexico thing. So i guess in the end everything will be OK. The sorry guy will be able to buy a new ivory backscratcher this year, and everybody will pay for it again
I guess nothing changes revolution or not.

Yeah the UN was going to help in Ruanda until they found out there was no Oil.
Then the idea of population cpntrol made even better sense.
UN is as useful as Tits on a Bull.

Re: UN intervenes Libya now
Yes the oil. Germany abstained from voting. Some think it was good because Germany hasn't intervenes at Cote d'Ivoire f.e. too. But when they agreed to the vote to intervene in Libya all would say we do it for the oil.
Personally I think that our government has no balls.
Germany exported in 2009 helicopters and jammers for 53 millions EUR, 13 times more then in 2008, to Gaddafi.
Not only to protect the citizens to be killed, it would be more than sincerely from us if our government has voted with yes.

You would be involved anyways by letting horrible things done when you knew ... there must be an intervention in my opinion.

the UN is not for helping. it is for stabilizing the staus quo.

Again, so wheres the difference between Libya and the many other evil regimes around the world.
Are we involved in all of these too, just because we know .... should we all send troops to all these areas.
Cos we can all afford it, theres no worries about money where Im from. hmmmmm.
Never even mind the morality, or lack of it.
Should the UN set up a no fly zone over USA and Europe, in order to stop the rendition flights, that the CIA favour. I mean we do know about these things.
Again its not our fight.
And to go a step further ..... how can 'we' proclaim to be defending the well being of the civillians when doing so is gonna probably involve throwing huge amounts of depleted uraninium all over their country, and then leaving then to deal with the horrid results.
again..... It all stinks of evil

Re: UN intervenes Libya now
Obomba has effectively surrendered US sovereignty in order to provide US troops as part the UN forces WITHOUT CONGRESSIONAL APPROVAL.
He's pulled the same BS that Boosh did.
Now the rest of the world gets to point it's fingers at the US and 'allies' when the sh*t hits the fan.
Gaddafry was always just a puppet (of unmentionable hands) anyways.
It's all smoke-n-mirrors.

Re: UN intervenes Libya now
This is, very unfortunately, the beginning of a big, extremely long fight that will last almost 20 years, as many countries will get involved slowly, but surely on it. The third world war has just started, believe it or not! Yea..., I wish I was wrong, but I'm not...

Re: UN intervenes Libya now
It's possible. France, Germany, the UK, the US & China all had quite a lot of 'illegal' and legal arms activity in all of these nation states that are currently in flux or have already 'fallen'. Selling arms & riot gear to both sides was only a small part of this. Lockheed/Martin gets to make yet more bombs/missles to replace the ones to be dropped/launched (any idea how hard this is to achieve against the Terrorists(tm), Al Queda and the Taliban? They don't have anything to hit missles with but 'bunkers'!) AK's needed all around, a few (hundred thousand) M16a2's thrown into the mix....maybe a shipful of SCARs or two...
Certainly what's going on in that region wasn't at all a 'surprise' to the parties meddling there. Also it's worth noting we conveniently waited until things were looking too favorable for the 'pro' current regime side, and then are only doing enough to keep things in a stalemate. There's no definitive crushing of Libyan forces, and it's probably a safe bet we're not going to end this in a 1-2 days as we certainly probably could with even current forces that have been positioned there.

those who are in charge have different agendas than would be expected by those who might view or be affected by any given scenario...
