Can Scope receive CV?

Post by smokeynyc »

I have a MOTU MicroBook USB interface, which has DC coupled outputs. These outputs are compatible with MOTU's Volta software, which manages CV to hardware synths. Of course, Volta only works with a synth that is capable of receiving CV.

So, my question is: Can the Scope environment receive CV?

I have a three card System...two Home cards and a Pulsar 1. I am wondering if I could used Volta to control, say, Modular 3.

as audio? yes, i think so, but the AD/DA would have to pass a square wave....some will, some won't, or at least that's how i understand it.

check this thread for a similar, but different approach.

You don't need CV, just audio, so why not use the ADAT ports on your scope hardware? I don't know about Volta, but it works with Expert Sleepers Silent Way suite, which does about the same...

Good luck!

of course you can, volta sends the digital cv signals to your audio interface, which in this case is scope, in scope you can route them to you modular device, or just wire them out your adat ports, which then should go to a converter that has adat ports, your motu device is too cheap to do that, otherwise you could control analog synths from your sequencer, over scope, over adat, there you go ;) If you select your motu device driver you can only route volta signals to that device, which then immediately converts them to real analog cv to control you analog synths - but we dont want to change driver everytime, do we? so you need a dc coupled adat ADDA converter to fully use the potential of volta, scope, analog hardware

garyb, tau, and tomylee:

Thanks for the tips/info. I will give this a try with Silent Way.

The Expert Sleepers ES-3 Lightpipe/CV Interface is a Eurorack format module which converts eight channels of ADAT Lightpipe input to DC coupled outputs. http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/es3.html

Volta is a Mac only application but for Windows you can use Silent Way.
