Recording mix through Wav-Driver: Pops'n'Crackls on left cha

Post by soylent.green »

Hi y'all,

Today I've tried to record a mix coming from cubase going through a scope mixer and wave dest into audacity. That kind of setup has worked well in the Scope 5 / 32bit days.
But now I have the odd behaviour that there are pops and crackles on left channel only. Even if cubase is stopped and all mixer levels show nothing, the pops and crackles are still there.
I've removed the wave drivers and added them again, same situation. I removed the wav drivers and added the 24bits version - that was worse ;-(
Waht is wrong? Scope drivers, my cubase 6 settings, my audacity 1.3 settings..? Is there any tips and tricks that can help me to fix that?

you can try to mess with the buffer setting in audacity...

you can also try running audacity in "above normal" priority.

Maybe try this. Add a second set of wave i/o modules in the routing window, and then within audacity select that second wave driver rather than the first one. I have discovereed this with a few apps in the past that didnt like using the first set of wave drivers and made crackling sounds, but played back fine using the second drivers.

A long shot but worth a try I guess. Cheers :)

Thanks guys, for your advice. But I haven't been succesfull fiddling with each and every wav-related option in scope and audacity until now.
This seems to be driver weirdness or a NotSupportedByAudacityException...Is somebody using Audacity succesfull with Scope 5.1/64 on old Scope Cards in a dual-card-configuration?

Okay, today I was able to record something succesfully. I started out having the same situation as I've described in this thread. then I closed Audacity and opend it as "Administrator". It's like scope and cubase which I have to start as admin either. Well, after that it worked. I'm not quite sure whether it's the Admin-Mode or it was the Restart that does the trick, but the result is a crackle-free recording. damn all this modern 64bit stuff is such great technology ;-) I hope this Admin-trick is reproducible, I keep you informed...

@ChrisWerner: Thanks for your reply, but let's hope that this Admin-trick works reliably...
