Scope 5.1 and Wavelab 7 Issue

Post by mausmuso »

HI There,
Not looking for help (I have worked through problems myself) but thought I might be able to save others time and effort.
I just updated Wavelab to 7.0 and loaded it onto my Win 7 64 Bit machine.
Everything went well (Install, validation etc) until I ran it the first time.
It searches out all the plugins and then hung at the end with a white screen and a message that said something about Audio files not responding.
I finally realised after reading Cubase.net that the problem was something to do with ASIO files not compatible or trying to display error messages whilst Wavelab was initialising.
Then the battle bagan - which ASIO file?
I had DX ASIO, Generic ASIO, ProjectMix I/O ASIO and of course Scope ASIO.
After a lot of uninstalling drivers I found that it was the Scope ASIO driver.
Finally I unistalled the two versions of SCOPE I had on my machine SCOPE XITE_2708_RC1 and RC2.
Wavelab then initialised under the generic ASIO driver.
I then reloaded SCOPE XITE_2708_RC2 and opened Wavelab.
It all worked until I tried to open the Audio Preferences page to change the audio driver.
Wavelab hung!
It looks to me like Wavelab is not compatible (at least in a 64 Bit Win 7 environment) with Scope ASIO!!
It still works via a 24 Bit Wave Source into SCOPE so its no biggie, but if you are struggling to figure out how to get it started, then:
Unistall SCOPE, Initialise Wavelab and then reinstall SCOPE.
Dont you just love software!

Was Scope running at the time Wavelab was hanging? If so, which ASIO driver was present?

I tried it with both Scope running and not running - it hung in both cases
I tried different ASIO modules (eg ASIO Source, ASIO Float Source, ASIO 2 Source, ASIO 2 Float Source).
Eventually I uninstalled Scope to take them completely out of the equation and then it initialised.

The behaviour is slightly more complex :D

It has to do with Wavelab trying to initialize ANY ASIO driver... So if you initialize
your Wavelab to use the generic ASIO driver, Wavelab will still hang!

Now all references to the Scope ASIO driver are removed from the registry, Wavelab 7
starts fine... Please see the following post for more info.

Kind regards,
