NOAA: last decade was warmest, global warming "undeniable"
Re: NOAA: last decade was warmest, global warming "undeniabl
it's what people do in their spare time, or when they meet out and about, talk about the weather....
Re: NOAA: last decade was warmest, global warming "undeniabl
Looks like I've chosen the worst moment to post here.
TV night news are talking about flood there in California.
Don't like to appear like a jinx...
I can ensure I have had no rain dance!

Re: NOAA: last decade was warmest, global warming "undeniabl

it's the first decent rain in many years, it's good!
this is the desert. if it rains, it floods.
Re: NOAA: last decade was warmest, global warming "undeniabl
Is there any reliable statistic related to the trend of this kind of events?

Yeah, in LA, when it rains, it all comes at once.garyb wrote:![]()

Meanwhile up here it's been raining for almost 3 weeks - apparently sort of 'normal' for this time of year.
Skiiers are happy.
edit - the 'trend' is so-called 'El Nino' / 'La Nina' swing in ocean currents every 7 years or so.
Warmer waters swinging further up the coast bringing more rain followed by several drier Winter seasons.
Up until last year most of the region was in a drought.

And as general advisement.Do rely on scientific measurement and facts and not on topics like these where everybody suddenly becomes a scientist and is "auto right" about totally horrificly wrong statements and general wrong and outragiously stupid remarks become facts. Its actually pretty well displayed in this topic.
Dont waste time with topics like this!Do yourself that favour.

Re: NOAA: last decade was warmest, global warming "undeniabl
We had disastrous flood events recently here (kind of... mountains fell in the see - the last in my country was at the end of summer in 2009). These events has been estimated as unusual...
Btw, looking at things from your perspective guys, I can live the lifestyle I'm in without that subtle sense of schizophrenia one can feel when two opposite ideas overlap.
Nevertheless I've to ask (probably again) garyb, since I wasn't been following this thread in the details, which infos make you convinced that human factor modulating the natural trend will not take to a no-return point?

Re: NOAA: last decade was warmest, global warming "undeniabl
Well all I know is I busted my ass getting ready for 3 Kontakt instruments I got on a last minute sale from NI in SoCal and the delivery date was the 23rd because I used the free ground service. And because of Global Warming which caused floods in the Mojave Desert, the 7th largest river in the USA ( which is BTW underground ) swelled up ove the water table and flooded I-15 so bad the trucks were re routed through the San Joaquin valley through Modesto, to Sacra-Lick-Toe, to Reno, and to Vegas tomorrow...........
Sonsa' bitches and their SUV's have caused excessive rainfall from their wasteful CO2 emissions, and now I must seek eversion elsewhere.....
Thankfully we have Modular.....
Merry Christmas My Brotha's.........

where is the evidence that the human factor modulating the natural trend will cause such trauma? actually, the fact is, the weather hasn't shown a catastrophic warming curve, as far as i can see. all i've seen is computer projections based on a very short period of normal temperature swings. yes, based on such projections, disaster has already occured, and all the ice is melted and there's no where to live. reality though, suggests otherwise. so does the Club of Rome, who in the now infamous "First Global Revolution" report stated that
In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famines and the like would fit the bill.
this is not a report by some conspiracy monger, no. here is the membership roster:http://www.clubofrome.org/eng/people/
these are the planners of world economies, diplomats and the heads of major institutions of learning.
it hurts, but the whole thing is a fraud. that is NOT to say that it's good to abuse the environment. actually, i do more to avoid abusing dirty energy sources than any of you. i'm powered by solar. i drive alternative fuels, so spare me any "holier than thou"s. i remember lots of different kinds of weather, including rainstorms like haven't been seen in decades in the western US because i'm older than most of you here.
you know why there are floods where people are? because it doesn't rain much here and jerks with a lot of money build on land that's cheap because it's a flood plain. since it only floods every 20, 30, 50 years, the suckers moving here don't know that the beautiful house they just bought is actually on a riverbed and the river's just been damed for a while and there haven't been enough rains to flood it lately(like over in the city of orange where i work, where there are literally 1000's of houses in the riverbed). or they build in chapparal that burns every few years(chapparal doesn't even sprout new seeds if it doesn't burn) and then hand wringing begins when there is a disaster. meanwhile the builders and the banks that employ them are long gone.
-btw- how does Kontakt make it to your door if not on a truck?
still! no one has explained how the last decade wasn't even close to the hottest decade, the earth was much hotter than today 1000 yerars ago and there was an ice age after that until the mid 1800s, all without human intervention. oh! and explain how back in the 70s when most of you were in diapers, they said that by now, we'd be smack in a huge ice age and we wouldn't be able to grow any food! i had this article when it came out, i was very into science back then, since my family has people in it who invented many of the things you take for granted today:

Surely humans must be to blame in entirety though. To admit to anything else is to let 'cracks appear' in any discussion, no? Find the most extreme point you can tolerate and defend it at all costs lest the pagans sully our minds!
Certainly can't allow for any outside information to penetrate the discussion: Solar Dynamo Still Anemic, Magnetism and UV Lax

Re: NOAA: last decade was warmest, global warming "undeniabl
That's something they recently lived in east-northern Italy. The alluvial plain has been heavily cementified with urban centres and industrial conglomeration. The result is that unusual(?) rainstorms cause disastrous floods even since soil assorption is considerably inhibited.garyb wrote:...don't know that the beautiful house they just bought is actually on a riverbed and the river's just been damed for a while...
No one but the gov will pay damages, in some degree. Insurances usually DON'T cover this kind of events; to impute legal responsability to anyone... it can actually result hard, of course.
As for southern Italy, things are worst. Looks like in the recent years we're having unusual weather events someone called " water bombs".
EXTREME rain concentrated on narrow areas in a very short time period (a couple of hours). The mountainous coastline melts down in mudslides sweeping everything away and burying people alive. The best chance is water torrents sweeping everything away.
Unfortunately I can't personally access rain data of the past (rain data though are often a media [EDITED: sorry I made some mess, "media" is the italian word for average] of the rain fell on a wider area), but people that's (considered as) trustworthy agree in saying that this is happening more often and harder than before. They relate it to the increased (and increasing) sea water temperature. This usually happens at the end of summer.
Probably I'm not up to date. Isn't Kontakt a soft sampler?garyb wrote:-btw- how does Kontakt make it to your door if not on a truck?

He's referring to shipping. And I hope the extreme sarcasm in my previous post was self evident.

Yes Cochise....
LOve the name BTW, he was one of my favorite warriors w/ Sitting Bull, and Geronimo when I was a kid. We actually hated Custer too.
NI tries to get folks to buy thier massive Komplete stuff by making them download other instruments, and I always tell them to shove it and send me the hard copy.
I didn't tell them to move to California so they could be taxed into submission, they should have moved here where's there's no State tax to pay pensions and OctoMoms........
Yes so I tell them to send me the hard copy, and because of those SUV's in the USA that have caused global warming, we have excessive rain this year. It was so cold in Europe that the UN decided to meet in Cancun to decide the fate of mankind. Problem was they ran out of limosuines and the elites were forced to CarPool like most other Americans have to do, that's terrible to see them having to suffer that way.
But my package was scanned this morning after it's long journey and I will be loading via USB 3.0 which will take minutes instead of that jive ass download that takes hours.
I would have bought Komplete but I too want to save the Planet by spending less hours struggling with NI's software in search of a quality sound, so after hearing their demos it was an easy decision.

Merry Xmas mates!
No Kontakt for me too.
So I'm still looking for the drumkit with the snare I've ever dreamed of.
...actually I'm looking for it not just on the market, but even between the samples I already have; I'm not that sure I already checked them all ..
..it always ends up with me trivially jamming with some sound before the whole check is complete...

Re: NOAA: last decade was warmest, global warming "undeniabl
well if you're talkin drum samples, get Jimmy to tell you bout the Larry Seyer.

Good kits.
Just... the link to the list of kits available as single download isn't working; neither I was able to figure out how to buy on that site
