VDAT x64 working ok

Post by ARCADIOS »

by the way.....

i have recorded a stereo file. quality of VDAT =great. keeps all the realtime quality sequenser playback.

is ti possible to record stereo instead of mono files?
also is it possible not to create 8 mono tracks(cause i need only 1 stereo) but only 1 stereo track?

No, only mono tracks. The community has been asking for a stereo mixdown device for years.

You could use one of the samplers, however they record directly to memory I believe.

it really records in a hi quality.
but it is kind of uncomfortable to have 2 mono channels and then to have to merge them.
anyway, is there a recommended way to merge 2 mono channels?

if not, i will continue recording at the sequenser dedicating an audio track for this purpose. i always record realtime simultaneously listening. never audiomixdown because of its low quality nomater the daw.

Well, there has always been reports of this mythological quality to VDAT. No one has every done any tests.

VDAT is a linear multi-track recorder, similar to the Alesis ADAT. I know the new ADATs have "2-track" project options, but not VDAT. It is a quite dated device.

As I said. The only stereo recording solution in Scope are the STS samplers.
I think the free editor Wavosaur reads 32-bit int. So does REAPER, but it is not really an editor.

You can load in two tracks though, pan them and render a stereo file.

nomater the daw.
Ye a pain but worth it.

Just line both tracks in an audio editor an merge 2 mono to stereo.

i think i will not use it this way. it's twice the effort recording vdat first and recording to other recorder after.... its better i think just recording directly to final stereo recorder.
anyway..... scope wave dests appear to be unstable.... so asio might be the only solution to send the singal to the recording daw.

if vdat had the option of 1 stereo recording, that would have been really nice.

it's a small pita indeed, but you don't have to re-record anything.
just open the 2 files in an audio editor as left and right, then save it.
here's a utility to do the job

well, I was curious.... so I took a really loud 808 sample loop, panned hard and saved 2 mono files in SAW Studio.
Joined them with the 'tool' and loaded the result inverted. Perfect Silence.
As I understand the .wav format (which I don't do fully...) it's interleaved, so the tool only sorts datablocks into 2 output containers (the files). It doesn't process anything.
Didn't try the numeric conversion which one may optionally choose.

cheers, Tom

To edit a .dev, it may not be protected - if not, one can at most "wrap" it into something else. But the mono files will remain, since they originate where no editing can be done...
