CL Studio Live (First Impression From Demo)

Post by braincell »

This is a live virtual video effects program which closely resembles Reason. Like Reason, it has a wrack and modules which use patch cables and you press tab to see them just like in Reason. It's very easy to use without reading the manual. The demo appears to have far fewer modules than the full version.

Any knob can be automated via midi with a simple learn function. It does not have midi sync which is a major oversight nor is there a record function for the knobs within the program. I guess that is why it is called "CL Studio Live." I assume the capture button creates a video from whatever you are doing.

In the future, the maker plans to offer Kinect drivers for this device. He already has hacked it and Microsoft claims to be taking legal action although the Copyright Office has deemed this type of hacking to me legal. Microsoft could still mess with him I am sure and drive him out of existence.

I feel the price $150 is a little steep for a 1.0 product which might not be around much longer due to the wrath of Microsoft. It still seems very tempting though. I might want to upgrade my graphics card since they recommend more than 512 RAM. I'm not sure if I can get a good one with no fan. I have built my computer to be as silent as possible for music so the thought of a tiny loud whining fan does not thrill me.

Update: He says MIDI Sync is on the todolist. I think I'll wait for that and the Kinect implementation.
