I've been going through ety er4 for 3 years now.. they each only last a year, and the Y section goes bad.. same thing, each year. Anyway, those things aren't cheap, so I'm thinking of trying something else. I like the ety sound, a bit too hot, but works well to keep the subway out of my ears...
Any other candidates out there for iems below $200? (not as awesome as Jerry Harvey's fighter jet earphones)
Since they're going to break anyway, I figure I should start shooting down, not up. Kinda sucks right, as iems can go up to a couple of grands.. and at the end of the day, it's not the drivers that go bad.. I guess I can batch send my etys and get them fixed.. such a drag.. I hate mailing things back and forth.
I've seen many reviews on headfi, but I'm not sure I trust audiophile ears... They judge gear on a different scale, in a different context, so I trust fellow musicians much more.. Actually I'd only ever trust an accomplished musicians ears..
BTW, heard of these drummer cans?

They're supposed to be 29db rated isolating headphones for drummers.. While the isolation capability is nowhere near the advertised 29db (I have 20db rated tactical earmuffs that are much better), the sound quality actually pretty good.. like monitor quality good. Wouldnt' wear it for 5 hours tho, cuz the ear muff part gets sweaty.
what to replace etymotic er4p with?
Re: what to replace etymotic er4p with?
Shure's SE535's (and all previous models at that pricepoint) are supposed to be the point at which sound quality becomes flat, but I haven't used in-ear monitoring in too long so I can't actually comment
