No new modules as such, but there are some improvements:
1.) Some modules have had bugfixes. A list of these would be nice wouldn't it
2.) Newly made modular patches now use the new style preset lists. This means faster preset loading, and if need be seperate preset lists for Midi controllers. It also means you can add comments to presets.
3.) Patches now saved as devices not modules. I don't know if this brings any advantages in itself - maybe it allows the new style presets?
4.) Entire contents of sample pool no longer saved with each preset - I might even re-release Jaded800 in a version which Mac users can use!
Anybody else noticed anything different?
I can also assure you that this is not the last development we'll see for the modular. I think CW had to concentrate on getting SFP 3.1 out of the door, but there's more stuff on the way for the modular, both from CW and others.

?-? ??
good to hear!
that preset loading thing was a big problem for myself.
does creamware document any of this stuff? i find it strange if they don't? most software i buy has a README with the latest info or changes that have been made listed.
thanks for encouragement re: development. cw mentioned further development in their faq a bit back in case you missed that post i made
best.

well, we can only bombard them with our ideas and the list thats been growing for half the year, and wait and see.
reading in to what you have posted thus far on your thoughts on the modular and its future development. it does seem your taking this a bit strongly, not to step on your toes or anything.
regards.

Strongly ? I'm not angry about anything if that's what you mean ... life's too short to worry about things like that. In the greater scheme of life it is just about meaningless
But in music terms I suppose I do feel strongly about the ModV2 in that it is a great system that has been in stasis for two years....
I desperately want to stick with it because I love the way it works and the sounds, but it just feels like a dead end at the moment, completely unloved by its creator and showing its age rather badly
Oh dear, am I feeling "strongly" again ?

I disagree. There are so many sonic options it would take years to exhaust them, and the basic character of the Mod2 is much better than any other digital modular system I've heard (including Nord) (this is my opinion). Of course I'd love to see more development, but there is already so much there, I imagine most users haven't even come close to exhausting the current possibilities...

I don't want to look like I'm bagging my favourite system but how about this:
No wav export from sequencer modules. I know this is my obsession
but this is now an absolutely basic function to all other sequencer modules. This failing alone (for me) makes the sequencer modules pretty well useless.
Clumsy 16-step drum sequencer module (well, all the sequencer modules really). An odd clicking logic, tiny interface and primitive controls. Does anyone seriously fiddle with those little pitch seq sliders - it's a like a dexterity test for chimps ! And let's have at least 32 steps!
No development worth speaking about in the past 18 months. The 3.1 updates you mention have not changed or enhanced the basic operation of the modules in any appreciable way.
There is absolutely no third-party development of ModV2. Sure there's the old Waldorf oscillators etc, but nothing in recent memory and no hint of anything in the future besides a rumour from Ben Walker.
CW say nothing about ModV2. What are we supposed to think of that ? Most companies will at leat say: "We are committed to Product X and you can expect something in third quarter 2002" etc
Compare the ModV2 to Reaktor (OK, I know you can compare apples and oranges of anything but still....). Reaktor is just bursting with all sorts of interesting and innovative modules and NI adds little extras quite often (ie: Rev6 free reverb). While I think the sound of Reaktor is quite poor, it's flexability and range of options blows ModV2 out of the water. Take a look at the Grain Cloud, Modulation Matrix or Event Table and just wonder what that would be like in ModV2 ! It's easily two generations ahead. Take a look:
http://www.native-instruments.net/index ... ditions_us
Against that - and before I become ModV2 Enemy Numero Uno - let me state clearly:
- I love the ModV2 system
- There is no better sounding modular system IMHO
- It is much easier and faster to create good devices than Reaktor
I suppose I am a heavy tweaker, and Reaktor is always described as the tweaker's machine... but I can see how the ModV2 could easily surpass it. But it requires effort by CW !

It's undisputable that there haven't been any "major" updates to mod2. But to say it's a deadend, really, is taking it too far (which is the point I was trying to make).
Spirit even though the Creamware environment looks like software, it really is hardware. Tell me, does an Access Virus, SuperNova, or Andomeda have "wave export"? This kind of stuff doesn't work that way on DSPs. Recording something to wave works the same on all my hardware, you just arm an audio channel in Logic (one click), and press record. It will even make a "perfectly looped" wave for you if you set Logic up that way, it's so easy, I really don't quite understand your obsession with that... You have to also understand the physical architecture of the card puts certain limits on it. Yeah I know it seems completely boundless and limitless, but it wasn't designed for things like granular, if they made a device like that everyone with non-Intel chipsets would be complaining about PCI usage.
That said, I really like your enthusiasm about mod2. It takes people like you to encourage development. I think there could be some more really nice additions to modular2, but haven't used it enough to tell you what they would be - it already does most everything I'd want to do as a casual modular user. Certain things like multiple CC control of other modules from one knob in a module perhaps with positive and negative scaling, that kind of thing, would be most useful to me.
I just hope they spend time doing useful things instead of reinventing the wheel with "wave export" and more "sequencer" stuff. Although more MIDI out stuff might be interesting...

Ah well, each to their own. My particular obsessions will just become part of another 40 (?) or so gathered at the Z and which are almost due to land on the doorstep of CW.
It's true I'm not famliar with what DSP architecture can and can't do. Maybe wav export is too much, but I've just come to expect that this platform can do just about ANYTHING !
I'll have to start really annoying CW about the ModV2 !
ps: wouldn't it be nice if CW staff visited and even *posted* on Planet Z ? I notice NI staf are regular visitors to KVR-VST...

I'm on this wagon. Innovation! Seq modules that are actually practical! Multiple module selection for copy/paste (oops, maybe this is possible) Better colors! Fancy knobs! Lights that flash... in INDIGO!!
But I perfectly understand what Spirit is trying to say.. it's such a capable system, with so much potential.. but all these tiny things are holding it back. Personally, I don't care if third parties get involved or not, as far as someone develops for it. Just getting the seq modules right would be a quantum leap in practicality...
Ah! Dunno why, I just got a new idea for a patch. Cya later guys.

Did you know that quite a lot of CW staff actually IS reading this forum?
e.g. the Modular wishlist WAS noticed and will be read and thought over, no question.
Thanks to all the Modular fans who contributed to it!
(By the way reading this forum's only one way the CW developers are listening to you - can't tell about the marketing guys, though...)
However, from now on you'll sometimes see me posting here,
BUT {citing Paul@CreamWare, who really knows about the official support job beeing difficult...} 'please do not
confuse my participation in this forum officially as support or start asking direct
support questions to me.'
but now back to the Modular2 - which is not forgotten (no, definitely not!)
As you got right, SFP 3.1 still is and will be top priority for some time.
But then... well there will be time for the Modular2 development again - hopefully soon.
Cheers,
Klaus Piehl
Creamware
yay
you guys rawk!
spirit, man....isn't this great!!!
i can just imagine you going to sweepy, sweep and wishing upon a shooting star before going beddy bye...hehe.
*exclaims in a high pitched voice*
wishes really do come true!
