Sfp 4.0 crashes when inputting midi notes

Post by Merkury »

Hello guys,I have always experienced this problem with Luna II ,from years.

when recording midi in cubase ,there's always a good chance that the system will halt, and i have to reboot, and creativity dies. Some times I'm lucky and it doesn't freeze and i can finish my songs. I've always thought it was Cubase fult, but then I switched to another Daw,zynewave Podium (which I found superior)..here i am,all excited making music with a great sequencer,,and TA DANNN ,every thing goes to crap, lost project, system halted with the sound in endless loop.
So...I'm tired of this situation..and if i don't find a solution I must replace my loved / hated Luna & SRB boards :( anybody has experienced similar problems ? I had this prob in all my computers / configuration, where the common denominator was Luna2 / Winxp.

I have tried everything.System time stamp,enable port filter ....

What software are you running on Scope? Luna II software is very old.

I'm not sure, what you mean for software? I'm running the basic project window in SFP 4.0 ,with

STM1632 with default connections
ASIO SOURCE -> ASIO DEST
LUNA MIDI SOURCE -> SEQUENCER DEST

no other programs ecxept Zynewave Podium

connect a midi filter just after midi source and before the midi dest.
active sensing or midi clock cause the problem.
tell me if it is fixed..... :)

Brotha' Man Arcadios beat me.
MIDI Filters are crucial.
Also are you using USB MIDI?
I witnessed crashes using USB when the IRQ's for the DSP cards are being shared with a USB controller that is also using MIDI.

No Usb ,keyboard is connected directly to Luna II midi inputs . BUT i gotta tell you that every time i connect my wireless connection USB pen,SFP crashes...

ThX a lot ,tomorrow I'll try the filter thing :)

well then, there's a usb controller sharing an irq with the card.

start/programs/accessories/system tools/system information/hardware resources/conflicts-sharing

tell me what is sharing an irq with your Scope card.

midi works fine in Scope, normally.

Hi garyb,

in conflcts/sharing there isn't the Creamware board ,but i think i found the problem : there's the Mobo's HD AUDIO driver that shares the IRQ with the USB ( 16 and 19) i think i forgot to deactivate it in the bios.

here are the IRQS

IRQ 0 Timer di sistema OK
IRQ 4 Porta di comunicazione (COM1) OK
IRQ 8 Orologio di sistema CMOS a tempo reale OK
IRQ 9 Sistema compatibile ACPI Microsoft OK
IRQ 13 Coprocessore matematico OK
IRQ 16 Controller host USB OpenHCD Standard OK
IRQ 16 Controller host USB OpenHCD Standard OK
IRQ 16 Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio OK
IRQ 17 Controller host standard avanzato da PCI a USB OK
IRQ 18 ATI Radeon HD 4200 OK
IRQ 18 Adattatore PCI standard da PCI a PCI OK
IRQ 18 Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller OK
IRQ 18 Controller host USB OpenHCD Standard OK
IRQ 18 Controller host USB OpenHCD Standard OK
IRQ 18 Controller host USB OpenHCD Standard OK
IRQ 19 Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio OK
IRQ 19 Controller host standard avanzato da PCI a USB OK
IRQ 20 Creamware DSP-Board OK
IRQ 22 Controller standard PCI IDE OK

And for the filter thing, seems to work now ,cause i tried playing a million notes together on the keyboard and it didn't crashed .I'll see in this days if the problem has really gone away. :)
I deactivated only the active sensing, right ? And i took the out from the MInv output.

yeah, active sensing is just a boatload of info that can't be used. you may be able to disable it on your controller, which would be better.

usually, if onboard sound shares an irq with usb, that's ok, but if you aren't using it, you might as well disable it. Scope can't share an irq because , as a real-time system, whe it gets it's chance to talk to the cpu, it must happen THEN. if something else is competing for attention at that moment, everything goes out of time and falls apart. or something like that... :)

Ok it stopped halting the system now !
Unfortunately it doesn't end here. Now the sound freezes and loops when i start using the pitch bend wheel ,and when i stop using it it goes smoothly. Don' t tell me not to use the pitch bend wheel cause I'm a guitar player and i need to bend the notes A LOT :D

I tried the following :

- connecting midi monitor to the midi source but i see nothing strange
- Tried changing the midi cable, nothing.
-tried exchanging midi channels and midi input to "all inputs".Nothing

Any other ideas ?
THX A LOT

Maybe you're creating a MIDI loop? Having monitoring enabled in Cubase can do that... Check your MIDI path, and make sure it doesn't loop somewhere...
