I already use PAE switch on my Win XP 32bit, but I still have 4 Gb RAM only.astroman wrote:afaik the license for Enterprise Server is more expensive than a 64 bit box connected via Adat...
anyway, check out PAE for the details and/or use the search function on this board.
The topic has been mentioned before. But you can use the extended adress space in 4 GB portions per process only.
For example Kontakt with a 6 GB lib wouldn't work, dunno if several instances would be mapped properly.
cheers, Tom
In theory every application (programmed to do it) can use 4 Gb of memory for himself
What I'd need is not theories, but real facts before throwing away my four 1 Gb banks and purchase four new 2 Gb banks.
If I use Kontakt inside Vienna Ensemble PRO (that I own already) can I load 4 Gb of samples in RAM and then use East West Play inside Cubase (or whatever sequencer you like) and fill another 3 Gb of RAM with its samples?!? (it's an exaggerated example)
I mean, all using 8 Gb of physical RAM...
I did some similar experiment (with less loads) and I made to get over 4 Gb of located system memory, but XP was swapping the samples onto the virtual memory pagefile (that is on HD),
and so with a long pause of Cubase/VEPRO before coming back usable again.
Is anyone actually experienced getting over the 4 Gb barrier with 8 Gb of physical RAM on XP (or Vista) 32bit?
For what I read, Windows Server 2003 should be just a bit more expensive than the XP Pro...
the problem actually would be "where I can buy one"!
And another problem is to reinstall all software by scratch (for me would mean a couple of weeks at least

Thanks for the answer in the meanwhile.
