With PC software due to be available in April 2010 these finally become a nice PC midi controller/instrument

There are three main flavours.
Eigenharp Alpha
Eigenharp Tau
Eigenharp Pico

I played it several times at NAMM.
I have video I haven't posted yet.

It's fun, has lots of configurability, but in many ways is over-engineered.

I would prefer that Eigenlabs just license the button technology and the software interface.
Also their modeling sounds are fairly decent. Much more responsive than normal MIDI.

I see upside potential, but also need to realize that a lot of 'alternative' controllers have come along over the years and haven't necessarily been successful.

but it's cool technology. still can't get over the fact that they paired the most awesome technology with the capability to play back.. yes, that's right, soundfonts. that's like using the state of the art kitchen with dual convection ovens, IR furnace, and top of the line utensils... and making popcorn in the microwave! lol.

The software was bought and is probably temporary. Ideally, it would be nice if they could license software from Synful Orchestra with a special edition; not likely to happen though. I agree with Greg they should license the hardware technology to other companies.. hint hint SC!

The main Eigen developer and founder told me that they developed all the software themselves - including the modeling - over the course of 8 years.
It's much more advanced than MIDI, so they had to adopt a MIDI 'step-down' resolution feature in order to interface to MIDI devices.
It's much more than just pitch-bend/mod/velocity/aftertouch. Hard to understand until you play it.

SC won't license I don't believe - anymore than UAD or the others - DSP is different. The big developers are going to get the SDK.

That's good. It adds a lot of value to the hardware and hopefully there will be some free upgrades. I'll probably buy one of the cheap models. Why does it have piano?
