Looking for old school mambo sample library

Post by petal »

Hi guys, I'm working on an iPhone game project where I am to deliver music and sound design. Here's an early protoype video for you to get an idea what it is all about:

I used Yma Sumac's Malambo no 1 as source for the music clips:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruvScOxWbA4

but due to problems getting a copyright deal together with the copyright holders (one would think that the music industry isn't interested in making money in alternative markets...) I have decided to create new music for the game instead.
I would like to hold on to the Mambo style and for that I need good quality authentic sounding samples of percussion and brass sections, hopefully something with the same kind of powerful energy as found in Yma Sumacs music. Can anyone of you point me in the right direction here, since I'm having trouble finding useful royalty free and affordable samples out there.

Cheers,
Thomas

Hey petal - don't know of any cut & paste mambo solutions, but if i were you i'd listen to some Machito (Francisco Raúl Gutiérrez Grillo) - that band rocked hard for a long, long time. Beautiful saxophone section arrangements, rhythm, etc., but still mainstream. An album called "Machito!!! - Machito and his salsa big band" comes to mind.

Hey Wayne,

Thank you for feedback. I'll give Machito a listen for sure.

I guess my main problem is to get the brass-rifs in place. I'm pretty sure I can program the percussion, but the brass-rifs are a tougher nut to crack if I want it to sound good and energetic, unless there's some solution out there that I don't know about...?
