grr, just as I sit down to make some music after solving one problem another comes along...

I configure my pulsar environment so that my Scope OR Luna Midi Source is connected to Sequencer Midi A Destination, Then I load cubase. As soon as I press a key on my keyboard cubase crashes.

Also, If I configure my pulsar environment so that Sequencer Midi A Source is connected to a pulsar Synth. Then select one of the luna/pulsar midi outputs on a track in cubase and enter some notes on that same track and hit play.. the synth doesnt receive anything.

I set midi devices to 1 as has been suggested elsewhere on this forum but it didnt help.

any ideas?

pIV, intel 850, Windows XP, Matrox graphics (Bus mastering disabled), Luna II + Scope. Running Pulsar 3.01b and cubase vst 5.1.

hi atomic,

was hoping that would solve it but unfortunately not.

I turned off midi thru in cubase, i even deselected all the midi inputs in the midi menu so there was No midi inputs. But again as soon as I pressed a key it crashed.

Whats a common midi configuration? I want to be able to control both VSTi and Scope synths via the same keyboard. My keyboard can be configured as regular midi input through the Luna/Scope card OR as USB keyboard with input through Cubase.

So, I was thinking of having it setup in cubase and then routing to Scope. But as you see above this wasnt working either.

I think im gonna have to try reinstalling everthing.

Hi, I just want to say I have exactly the same problem, orbita (so you're not alone). Was hoping midi thru off would help, it seems like at0mic tricks normally helps. I'm just waiting for 3.1 before I reinstall everything if there isn't any other solution.

ok, Ive had some success. here is what I tried..

I unisntalled cubase+pulsar completely.

I installed Pulsar software and then I set the number of midi channels to 1 in the Scope + Luna hardware device properties.

then I reinstalled Cubase and at this point it just had 1 pulsar midi driver.

This seems to work fine.

So I then, I increased it to 2 devices and rebooted. There was no change in cubase, it still have only 1 midi device.

So I reinstalled Cubase. Now it sees 2 midi drivers, but crashes as soon as I press a note.

It seems that it is very unhappy having more than 1 midi driver to choose from. It also seem that in order to get cubase to recognise the number of drivers available you have to reinstall (reinstall over the top of your existing install is fine)

Lets hope 3.1 solves this problem because 16 channels isnt going to go too far..

There's several things you could do for troubleshooting.
Some suggestions:
-> Try disabling as much as you can midi stuff, ie. in SetupMME. Does it still crash? Do you have anternate midi ports you can use? Then disable the Pulsar software ports, or even go to hardware properties in device manager and set midi ports to '0'.
-> Can you send midi to Pulsar if you've drawn it by mouse instead of thru-put w keyboard?
-> Do other programs work right with the Pulsar midi ports?
-> Does Cubase crash if you have no connections in Pulsar OS?
-> Did you try not to merge but route HWsource->SeqDest->Cubase->SeqSource->...?

I think this is some Cubase problem, and you might wanna reset it's Pulsar midi stuff in some way. I slightly remember having experienced something alike, but I don't know what fixed it... If I remember well, Cubase screwed it up. Try looking on http://www.steinberg.net to see if someone knows if this happens maybe more...

Good luck.

Its very odd cos with 1 scope midi port it works perfectly fine..

But if you increase to 2 midi ports or more then nasty problems.

Ill stick to 1 for now and see how I go.

Another question I have
Is there a way to merge lots of midi channels in one go without having lots of midi merge boxes everywhere.

I want this so I can record midi controller data from multiple synths into cubase.

That's weird, if one port works... but at least you can continue the works. How many ports are assigned in Device Manager, SetupMME, etc?

To merge your synth midi outs, there's only the Midi Merger :/ I usually connect only the one I'm recording to Seq Dest, and leave the others open...

when I had 2 configured, I tried to remove 1 from the MME settings and that actually disabled both of them.

I think i might have to do a 4-2-1 formation of midi merge boxes to allow 8 different synths to record.

btw atomic this is a bit off topic (ive already asked is sts forum with no response) should it be possible to drag drop akai sample programs direct from akai disks into my sts5000?

When I try, it seems to load the program fine but it complains that it cant find the samples themselves. If I save the program to STS format using CDextract it works fine but would be nice to do it direct from CD -> sampler.
