African Treasures Percussion

Post by braincell »

I canceled my tongue drum order because I found better tongue drums. These are all in tune and beautiful. Kind of expensive but sound beautiful. They have audio samples of all of them. This guy has been making tongue drums for over 30 years.

Is that what Bill Bruford plays on King Crimson's "The Sheltering Sky"?

He used a cheap $25 version on that song but he currently has the Michael Thiele ones from African Treasures.

The House of Musical Traditions has one by Thiele I am going to try which is as big as a table and everyone who plays it loves it but it costs thousands so nobody has bought it since it went on display 5 years ago. Someone should tell Bill Bruford about it. Maybe I will try to email him.

In case someone isn't familiar with the song. This youtube video uses it. The very first sound and prominent to this song is the tong drum.
