Re: Ft Hood
Condolances to those involved. Hope there's not any civillians down.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Re: Ft Hood
CNN says that some civilian guards may be amongst victims.
The assailant was about to be deployed to Afghanistan.
Very sad event.

Re: Ft Hood
Good think the killer has government medical insurance. They are saving him so they can kill him.
Re: Ft Hood
Read that in news this morning. My condolences to families.
Re: Ft Hood
Yet another graphic illustration of why guns shouldn't be legal. The assassin brandished privately owned weapons not issued by the military. A tragic loss for gun happy America.
Re: Ft Hood
this guy WAS in the military.
banning guns won't stop murder or make you safe when you sleep at night or eliminate guns from the street.

Re: Ft Hood
Yea banning guns in the military is a great start, can we get the other militaries to do it too?
Re: Ft Hood
I don't know any other country which put the right to own a gun in the constitution (according to interpretation). How crazy is that? If it makes sense to you guys then why are we the only ones who have this right?

Re: Ft Hood
i am not sure of the truth of this but owning a gun in Switzerland is mandatory and you dont hear about too many mad attacks there.
personally i would own a gun in canada and keep it totally locked up and hidden if i was allowed to but im not so i have a rapid reloading crossbow and other "treats" to get me to the armory incase the civilizations collapses

Re: Ft Hood
Because it is a right that was handed down to us.
How else would you suggest we persuade an out of control Government...?
The Vietnam War was brought to an earlier end because of the fear of numbers, and those numbers theoretically could have weapons.
In most countries it's a military coup that overthrows the Government, in our society the citizens have that right.
An out of control Government gets really nervous when they know guns are legal and easy to obtain.
Do you think the PRC's Army would have shot and killed so many at Tiananmen Square if they knew their citizens had guns..?
Many countries have new constitutions because they have lost wars and had their constitution re written. So obviously they misused their power and paid for it by losing those rights temporarily.
I think it's too late to take back guns from Americans. Our Government has assasinated it's own leaders, invaded foriegn territories when the citizens had no desire to fight a war where the people we were fighting for didn't want to fight.
I can think of even more reasons since Clinton left office. We are represented by the most skillful liars in the world. As long as they run things right, we pretend to forget the lies and deceptions they used on us to get elected.
Once our guns are gone, and only they have weapons, we have no voice.
Only through the fear of losing an election or being overthrown by racist gun owners (
) will these temporary occupants of our capital base their decision making.
We in the middle class have to fight to keep our homes and watch Banks that we bailed out as taxpayers turn around and raise interest rates to 30%.....So I need my guns more than ever.

Re: Ft Hood
again, jimmy nothing personal, only my conclusions from my recent studies into the public policy process in the US..
guns and overthrowing governments aren't quite as related I don't think. There are more powerful activities that have historically been much more effective. First thing that comes to mind is the civil rights movements. I believe more guns were used to try to stop the movement than to make it succeed. Probably many, many more guns to stop it from being implemented.
Even on a more violent side, protests are an effective method to make a political statement. A great example of this are the antiwar protests of the 60's, which of course set the tone to the end of the Vietnam war. Rodney King protest also pushed the agenda up to national attention, even though the protest became a riot.
Guns are not needed to change government direction. Historically, the those times were the Articles of Confederation days, namely Shay's Rebellion. But as far as I know, guns have not played a central role in the way citizens interact with the government.
It's far more important for the disadvantaged (anyone but the 0.3% that own over 90% of all US money, which to me is far more devastating than who has more guns) to have a thorough understanding of the political system and ways in which the system can be exploited so that the issues that concern you, may be lifted above issues that only concern the powerful rich. Politics is the tool with which to change the government, and by design, the US constitution allows its citizens to freely use it to a great degree. At least some of the forefathers knew what they were doing.

Re: Ft Hood
No offense taken my friend. We have sat together during good times and can be honest and share opinions. We also saw a crazy DVD too......
I just know that we are being decieved and social collapse could happen overnight. In 2008 we woke up one day and found out our property had lost 30%. We were then told do not sell your property, it will rebound and this is temporary. Meanwhile in 2009 unemployment is rampid, and my home is worth 50% of it's value based on the 2006 Appraisal. The GDP figures are lies, the unemployment rates are lies, our treasury answers to nobody as if it is a seperate branch of Government. So a little bit at a time we are losing private small banks and bailing out the ones that are " Too Big To Fail. "
These are small steps leading to hidden agendas. There will be a social collapse if a single bomb gets dropped in Iran. The Straights Of Hormuz will close. And what if the Saudis decide the US Dollar is no longer the currency for the purchasing of Oil. ? Even Venezuala gives us 12% of our Oil, and he just loves Americans.
Long lines for food and government rationed petroleum products will cause major panic. I have seen this, I know it would be temporary, but most Americans have never seen such strife and they will freakout.......My God no iPhones.........
So whoever decides to control the population when these times happen, will definately be concerned about the 90 million civilians who own firearms. It will be a part of their decision making eventually, but of course banning weapons will be their goal. I only want the right to protect my family and myself and Hunt and fish until the next group of liars/actors takes over.
Once again, my condolances for the families destroyed by this freak.

Re: Ft Hood
ken, you are naive, but in a great way. i love that you can think what you do.
the "civil rights movement", while doing a great job stigmatizing race-hate, actually made the average Black people's lives worse. the worst bigotry went underground, and all the families broke up as everyone went on welfare, to receive their loving-kindness assistance and black-owned businesses failed as many refused to patronize their neighbors anymore...
guns are not for protest. they are serious. they are for when the time to talk is over. they are best for killing wild animals full of bloodlust, and yes, like a Samurai's sword, there is a danger of falling into bloodlust one's self. the world is not safe, the government can't assure safety.

Re: Ft Hood
Let me say this before anyone shows pictures of mean " Great White Hunters " killing Bambi.
Ever seen what an Elk who has starved to death looks like...? The lucky ones just wonder into peoples back yards and make a shit load of noise, then get shot without the meat being used. These are some of the things that take place in Reno, Nevada and Carson CIty.
Fish & Game folks are very good at following migration and keeping the population control that benefits man and moose. Here's an example.
Yellowstone is so close to it's historical game levels and the re introduction of species that were on the brink of extinction because of these loyal smart enviromentalist folks from fish & game.
No hunting is allowed because the Wolves take care of business.
We hunt where there are no Wolves, and we are 20 miles away from civilization and not once has anyone ever been shot. I was considering taking my X Wive hunting though.....
.....ankyu.
I doubt the judge would buy my story.
Again My Condolances To The Families.

Re: Ft Hood
well, what would you expect ?
Firearms have been invented hundreds of years ago and can be considered 'global' knowledge.
If a blacksmith in Pakistan copies an AK47, so can I.
If guns are banned and I want one (for whatever reasons), I could make my own, as my own ammo, too.
One simply cannot avoid incidents like the one at Ft. Hood.
There are hundreds of ways to harm people if you want to harm people.
Banning guns is like treating symptoms instead of the source of the disease.
there's a 2nd thread about 'another mass murder in Orlando'
afaik there has only been 1 dead and 5 wounded
not to play it down, but it pretty much shows todays media hysteria
cheers, Tom

Re: Ft Hood
I believe I stated it was for an enviromental need, for food, and because it is an American right and freedom.stardust wrote: At least you made clear that you hunt for fun without need for food or for a living or for a environmental need.
So everyone has his favorite sports.
We also have the Forestry, Fish & Game folks dragging large trees by Bulldozer over to Dog Valley where we arrive with McCullough chainsaws and take home 6 cords of firewood.
Once again, it's good for keeping the enviroment balanced, providing warmth, and we even share the wood with elderly neighbors who we also also shovel their snow.
I know what I do is just, and wise.
Just thought I should clarify your misconceptions.
Re: Ft Hood
it's important to retain some wildness.
it's a pretty sorry human being who is completely dependant on a cental authority to survive, when he was born with everything that is needed to survive on his own.

Re: Ft Hood
Without authority there would be mayhem. One of the biggest impediments to progress is all the states bickering with each other and the fed. It's stupid. Do something don't just fight all the time. I hate it! The only thing they agree on is war when they should be spending the money here on education and health care and a myriad of other stuff. Independence is in communist countries like Vietnam. That is where the government doesn't do anything. If you are dying there, you can't get into a hospital unless you pay first. That is independence. We are not animals. We help each other. It's not right to let the sick and weak die. We have to help each other. Help kids get an education and a good one, not just through primary school. In Finland, all colleges are free. That is why Finns have such a low rate of unemployment and excellent benefits. I am sick and tired of the republican philosophy of ignoring the poor and middle class. We will prevail eventually and conservatives will be miserable. Good!!!
