Scope 4.0 crashes gives blue screen of death

Post by astro planet »

Hello,
I am new to scope. My father-in-law had one 14 dsp scope card and two 6 dsp pulsar cards that I retrieved from his basement.
He told me how great they are so I have been trying to get them running.
but every time I open scope 4.0, or sometimes get to the point of selecting a driver in Ableton live it will usually crash and give a blue screen of death.
I have tried moving the boards to different slots, disabling onboard devices, installing windows xp updates, installing motherboard updates ect.
But still no luck.
Does anyone know of a good system configuration that will make this work, or have any suggestions?

I am running it on an A8V Deluxe motherboard, AMD Athlon 64 dual core processor 2000mhz, 1gb ram, Sata 80gb internal hard drive.
My operating system is Windows XP sp3. I am running Scope 4.0, and using Ableton live 8 as my sequencer.

The cards look pretty old. the dates on the pulsar are 1998, and the scope date I believe is dated 2001.
Thanks
Chris

i doubt it's the cards being broken, although blue screens are usually hardware related.

go to system information/hardware/conflicts-sharing and tell me what, if anything, is sharing an irq with a Scope card.

did you touch any of the gold contacts with your fingers? if so, they will need cleaning. use 99% or better alchohol or contact cleaner like stabilant or deoxit. be sure the cards are fully seated in their slots.

Scope should already be running when the computer starts. have you disabled the automatic startup?

hi,
None of the IRQ's are being shared and there are no conflicts.
I probably have at some point touched them, but will make sure to clean them.
They are all firmly in their slots.
I have not disables the automatic start-up since I re-installed scope 4, but will do that.

I don't think it is a card issue either because I tried them all individually and Scope still crashed.

I was thinking of installing windows 2000 hoping it would be more compatible.
I have tried xp with both acpi and standard pc. still the same problem, but since it is
a dual core I went back to acpi.
I would assume it is a problem with the scope asio drivers, but don't know. I haven't had much experience
in the scope world.
But I have read of others having issues with the drivers.
Thank goodness for this forum

xp should work great, and i always use acpi. i see no reason to turn off auto start. the reason i asked was that you said when you start Scope you get a bluescreen. if Scope is already started at boot, i don't understand why you're starting it again...

BSOD almost ALWAYS indicates a hardware failure. if Scope starts on bootup and doesn't give a "hardware version 16" error, the card(s) are almost certainly working. i'd check ram, video card and power supply, then the motherboard. Scope can really work the pci bus. it will often show up a faulty motherboard when another card won't.
