Pops - Standard PC

Post by Bat71 »

Hi

Have not been here for a while but have recently built a new PC. Old one served me for 7-8 years.

I now have occasional minor clicks and pops again in recorded audio which if I remember rightly were eliminated on my old build when I installed XP in 'standard' PC mode.

I am using cubase and scope version 3.1b drivers as newer drivers cause freezes in cubase.

I was wondering if this if I will have to use standard PC mode again, or if there is now a workaround.

I think it is the shared IRQ problem which causes this.

Many thanks

hey,
i'm not gonna be smart here, but in my experiences, mine setup causes problems while installed in ACPI or any other multi ACPI mode,
with blue screens or freezes, no IRQ sharing or anything similar, cause i have all that stuff disabled in BIOS or later in Windows optimization,
so, i'm using PC Standard Mode and it's working really nice , i can work whole day with full project loaded and not even single crash occured,
i have 2 computers with Sonic-Core cards connected , both installed PC Standard Mode,

that's just my experience and some will say opposite,
my main audio setup;
1 x Luna II
2 x Pulsar XTC
Scope 5

Abit IC7 - 478 chipset
Pentium 4 2.8
2 gb RAM
Ati Radeon 9600
1 x IDE WD 80gb

cheers,

can't you disable the shared devices?
standard pc is not really called for or recommended with newer motherboards...

yep, I tried standard and pc started to freeze every 5 seconds!

Am doing fresh install now. I will post a JPEG of the IRQ list in a moment, it would be great if you can tell me how/what to disable.

Many thanks

Start in your BIOS! Disable unnecessary things like Serial ports, Parallel ports (UUART), floppy disk controller (unless you have one?) etc.
