soundtracs topaz mixer opinion?

Post by the19thbear »

I can get this board that has:
32 inputs ( both mic/line/tape)
direct outs on every channel
8 groups
phantom
4 fx reurn
6 auxes
eq with 2 sweeps and 2 fixed freq

Topaz 32/8/2
Image

It has been recapped and has no scrathcy pots etc.

I can get it for 1,074.24 euro or 1,495.58 us dollars.

It seems like a steal! ( plus its for sale where i live)
Right now i have a studer/revox mixer, but only 6 channels, and could use some more ( though i plan on selling the revox mixer to buy the topaz)
any opinions on the topaz mixer??
I read the EQ is AMAZING... but what about the micpres?

thanks!

If it really HAS been recapped, it seems like a steal because it would cost you about that much to get it recapped by a pro (there's gonna be like +500 caps in there).

Here's a thread on GS with some people who've used these desks talking about them. :)

Dont sell the revox imo.You wont get this sound with any other desk.If you need more channels buy the topaz but you may aswell keep the small desk for misc routing.
Just imo ofc.

well i'm getting the desk!
I'll have to think about what i want to sell if i'm not selling the revox mixer.. DANG!!
I dont want to part with any of my 3 scope cards.
I dont want to part with my vintage tapedelays and analog delays... dont want to sell the hardware comps/gates... and i dont want to sell the analog synths i have!!!!!!!... and i dont want to be broke either!

I think the revox is the only thing that i can sell really!

well here is a link where you can see the mixer restoration process: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=4 ... 606cbbf107
It seems like he has done ALOT of work on this desk!
repaired PSU/recapped/fixed the sidebars/fixed the rubber armresting thingie etc etc!
