Potential LIMFAT Bug in 5.0

Post by mausmuso »

HI Guys,
I may have discovered a bug in SCOPE 5.0.
I put a Spacef LIMFAT in an insert on the stereo output bus of a project.
All works fine until the next time I loaded this project - no sound output.
I can only get it to work by removing LIMFAT and reloading it.
This behaviour was repeatable
Anyone have this issue?
LIMFAT of course worked fine in 4.5.
Not a showstopper by any means but annoying as I use LIMFAT a lot.

I use Limfat too and never have had a problem with it yet.
Which mixer are you using?

Hey Jimmy,
I am using the stock standard 2448
LIMFAT in insert 1 of the master.

Are there any plugins inside the inserts ?

Did you check if the any of the knobs arent on some weird setting after reloading the project ?

I had similar troubles before with no sound but I was using the browser and loading the wrong reg, file called registration custom. The file named registration info. was the one I needed.
But LimFat is crucial, glad you are using it.

on the latest version, i remember having corrected a fader preset as someone was encountering a bug on project reload with the threshold fader on scope 4.x. I've never experienced such problems but i did the update anyway. It wasn't related to sound bypass, rather to the fader position going at minimum on project reload.
This version is available in the Fat Insert user area.

Unfortunately, I am unable to either check or cure any bug as it can be a lot of things in LimFat because it uses all possible scope 4.x optimizing tricks for dsp placement (it could be that) , and a lot of internal dynamic circuitry (it could be that too), but it could be something completely different... . I am a bit powerless at the moment concerning all those transitional issues....
All that i can do is read people's reports and make that clear on my site that i can't do anything, and wait for when i can do something....

EDIT: i made a list of current issues and possible temporary solutions for some of them (unfortunately, not this issue about limfat).
nb: personally, i suspect something about dsp placement that is different in scope4.x/5-RC/xite, but as i said, it could be something completely different.

Thanks Spacef,
No biggie.
I am sure you will look at it in time if it turns out to be a bug (of course it might not be one).
I tend to put LIMFAT in the master bus (if needed) as final tweak before rendering to stereo.
So it is usually dealt with in the one session and in that sense LIMFAT has never missed a beat.
Luv the FAT series!!

I've uploaded a limfat mod for testing... it has no internal settings for dsp behavior and may be it changes something, may be not.
If you don't experience problems, just continue using the current v1.1 version.

User area , direct download link:

let me know whether it changes something....

Hi Medhi,
Thanks for the Test Limfat, unfortunately it demostrates the same symptons, works fine until you save, close and then reopen - no sound.
I trust you will be on the case in due time.
Thanks for the consideration

Try making screenshots of the before & the after settings.

You can still use LimFat in a Pre Destination Module placement if it's a critical element of a mix.
I like putting the Stereo Expander in it's insert slot for extra width.
A medium setting for limiting too, just to keep the analog synth from overwhelming the virtual instruments.
I often have projects that sound great on my monitors but different at the gigs. So instead of changing my gain structure or EQ I can insert LimFat or other devices like a DAS C350 channel strip, etc. Get the sound on my stage monitors that sounds good and leave it alone for the rest of the night.
I am learning to get around any inconsistancies I find as I wait for fixes.
None have so far been showstoppers.

I had this problem before I talked to Mehdi about it and he fixed it with an update. What used to happen is that the threshold slider would go all the way down on project reload and totally squash all sound. Use it in your project window you wouldn't have a problem, only on inserts.

Thanks Jan,
You have described exactly what is happening and also the solution - use it in the project window not in an insert.
Thanks Guys
