SFP5 running with 64bit drivers : is this in project and whe

Post by Iokanaan »

Hi,

I wanted to try a system in 64bit and wanted to know if the current - and only 32 bit - version of SFP 5 was meant to receive once 64bit drivers in order to run on a 64bit OS with 64bit DAWs ?

Thanks for your answers.
Best Regards.

i suspect there will be a different 64bit version. i don't think that it's hard to produce the 64bit version.

either way, you won't be able to use the card in 64bit without the driver.

Depends on how closely the Scope codebase is tied to the specifics of the driver model. Given the number of drivers that Scope interfaces with I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they need to overhaul Scope a bit to get it working properly, or perhaps they'll go whole-hog and support 64bit natively in Scope (meaning support for 64bit memory paging). Scope certainly doesn't need more than 2GB of ram in its current incarnation to be used, so we'll just have to wait & see what S|C does...

I've tried but I got no answer from them... I was suspecting that and that's why I figured out that maybe some people on this forum had had some infos and could answer.

well, there's no one who can answer your question. without 64bit drivers, you can't in any way, shape, or form run Scope. when there ARE the 64bit drivers that S/C says that they will make, then you WILL be able to run Scope in 64bit, period. you can't test the 32bit app in your 64bit environmnet.

S/C can't tell you WHEN, because they can't start that job until the've handled the current job. this isn't microsoft with teams of 100's of programmers, it's a few guys working constantly. they don't know EXACTLY how long it will take without forseeing the future. unfortunately, it won't be done before it's done.

personally, i think Scope's benefits way out balance the ability to use a 64bit os, but obviously, that's a decision the you have to weigh out for yourself. eventually, if S/C survives, they will get to EVERY wish that is achievable with Scope, that's just how they are.
