SFP5 & modular III

has anybody with sfp5 checked the problem with modular regarding building a synth and then saving presets only not to have everything recalled properly? Can we just build anything with modular and hook it up, save it and make presets now or do we still have to build without connecting then save then close - reopen and connect then make presets?
