Newbie question: faint high-pitched tone in both speakers

Post by VoicOfReason »

I just hooked up my Sonic Core Project card. I got the card with unbalanced audio outputs because I needed the digital in/outs. I thought I might have some noise in the line, but not a faint high-pitched tone which never varies in volume, but is always there. How annoying! I thought I was actually upgrading by buying a Sonic Core instead of keeping with my Emu 1212m. Now, I'm thinking twice. Any suggestions.

....If you have a high pitched noise. Are you sure the card is completly in the pci slot? If yes try to put it in another slot. What you hear is probably ripple from the pc power supply.Have you build this pc yourself? Is the mainboard grounded properly?Did you use the screw rings for the mainboard holding screws that rip into the copper surrounding?

No, not at extreme gain, all the time, even when volume is at zero or muted.

Not sure about motherboard. Guess I could try a different slot, but there are only 2 PCI slots, and it doesn't fit in the other one because of circuity around it.

Is the pitched noise changing when you move the mouse?

what's in the routing window?

you say you needed the digital i/o so you got the unbalanced card, but the balanced card has the same i/o(it has digital i/o).....

i doubt it's the balanced/unbalanced thing....

does this noise appear in your Scope mixer, and if so, can you record it and upload it?
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.
