The right price for a Scope Pro 15DSP

Post by erminardi »

Ok, this is why IMO at actually price to buy a second hand Scope Pro don't worth!

Actually the average price of a second hand Scope Pro 15 DSP is around 900 euros, I think that the basic calculation is over "on street" price of a new Scope Pro from S|C site: 1.798 eruo / 2 (the standard price cut factor for second hand gear) = 900 euro

So if I want 3x15DSP i must spend 900 x 3 euro = 2.400 euro and I obtain 45 DPs power (and a lot of PCI/STDM problems)

I think that is better to buy directly the new Xite at 2.698 euro -> 150 DSPs power and new enginereed system!

This calculation is done without the standard discount that the resellers offer (average from 10 to 15%) over the official launch price.

So IMO the right price for a (usually heavy) used 15 DSP (II gen), that is a 10 year old technology and with oblsolete PCI standard, is no more of 600 euro (M&M + S&S pack + 4.5 OS)

This my opinion.

So start to shoot my person...
4PC + Scope 5.0 + no more Xite + 2xScope Pro + 6xPulsarII + 2xLunaII + SDK + a lot of devices (Flexor III & Solaris 4.1 etc.) + Plugiator.

Scope Pro 15 DSP, 4.5, M&M, S&S, used: 600 euro

Scope 6 DSP, 4.5, M&M or S&S, used: 250-300 euro

Scope home 3 DSP, 4.5, std plugins: 100-150 euro
4PC + Scope 5.0 + no more Xite + 2xScope Pro + 6xPulsarII + 2xLunaII + SDK + a lot of devices (Flexor III & Solaris 4.1 etc.) + Plugiator.

Generally spoken, I think you're right. But there's a slight chance the old card's value shouldn't drop more or the value may even increase, and that's because of the lack of I/Os in Xite-1 and the Scope 5, which gives the cards a second life (no pun intended ;-)).

Well, if you look at eBay, you will find that this is much too optimistic. I buyed a Luna for 111 Euro there, and I had the feeling that I should bite myself in my own ass as I saw some days later a Luna was sold for 70 Euro. I just had to be a little bit more patient and I could have spare 40 Euro.

Same is what I have seen on the other cards: The market price is just below the price you wrote - you just have to wait and to be a little bit lucky. There are some people who offer a Scope Pro for 1200 Euro, but they are in the auction again and again, because no one wants it at this price. It's nice to dream, but I think it would be nicer to get some money for it. :P

The only reason why it may be interesting to buy a Scope Pro is because you can only get the SDK if you have one. If you want to develop a little piece of software, it should be enough to spend 600 Euro instead of 2600 Euro (assuming that you get the SDK with XITE, what I do not know really). (By the way ... if someone in Munic, Germany, has a SDK, would be nice if he would contact me ... we should drink a cup of coffee together. :D )

Maybe this is interesting for someone who wants to buy a used card:

If you register it, you will get the 4.0 software for free! Including all the plugins belonging to the type of card you register! 4.0 is technically the same as 4.5 - so it makes no sense to think a card with 4.0 or 4.5 software is more worth than a card with 3.1 software.

So if you want to buy a card, do not look on the software which comes with the card! If there are some "exotic" plugins on it (means plugins not from Creamware, just like Dynatube etc.) it make sense to pay for it, but not for the plugins that come with Scope 4.x for this type of card anyway!

Bye

Trööt.
