I think the instruments they are talking about aren't musical even though they have analog & digital I/O's.

Virgil Cane is the name and I served on the Danville train
'till Stoneman's cavallery came and tore up the tracks again
in the winter of 65...

and probably a hundred times more Sharcs are serving in telecommunication racks than in musical applications... :D
Bittware is another supplier if you're interested in doing your own stuff

the only tiny disadvantge is a slightly increased developement time, but then you're free to code whatever you like...
Depending on personal skills expect anything from a factor of 5 to 50 more time than with Scope SDK. ;)
