STM2448 Stereochannels get switched on the monitor send!?

Post by Dstruct »

We're using Scope 4.0 in our Studio. Anybody ever noticed that stereo-enabled channels come out switched on the external monitor outputs on the STM2448?

-> set track to stereo
-> enable monitor send on the track

-> feed some stereo signal to the track
-> now check the stereo signal on the external monitor outputs

-> Left becomes Right and Right becomes Left!? Is this a feature I'm not understanding or simply an overlooked bug?

And they never fixed it? What are these guys doing? Why don't they release some bugfix udates?

It's a small staff. When you deal with the SDK to design devices, it becomes obvious there's an incredible amount of interconnectedness that isn't immediately obvious to the end user via just the UI you're given. Fixing a 'simple bug' may mean just swapping 2 settings (which is probably what you were thinking) or it could mean weeks of rewiring to get the issue fixed where it actually occured and keep the rest of the structure intact.

There are a number of small bugs with Scope and it's devices, and it would be nice to find them fixed in the next update. However as a musician/producer it's common to find bugs in all of our software and even hardware, the real concern for creative users is to be aware of them so they can be easily worked around/accounted for in your workflow.

i could explain how this can happen, let's just say it's a low priority problem. remember, this is Sonic/Core you're spoeaking about now, which is made up of the team that did the original system design which hasn't worked on the system since v3.1. Creamware was the maker and seller of Scope from ver1 to v4.5. the reason that Creamware failed to do certain bugfixes is best not rehashed now, though we could speak privately sometime. most details will never be known. currently S/C is fervently finishing v5. Holger and Jurgen saved Scope from oblivion and kept the line going very transparently. i'm sure that they will do their best to make Scope perfect, something no software is.

is this really an issue, some kinda showstopper? :)

Scope has a few quirks, but it is rock stable once you find out how it works, the best working program on my computer...even better, it really sounds great and the premium devices from S/C and the 3rd party developers are worth every penny and are truly professional tools for the most part.

But it's not common to pay for bugfixes. No free bugfixes? They must be joking.

i'm not sure what you are talking about. v5 is free to 4.5 users. the only paid upgrades i've ever had since v1.1 were v3, a major rewrite that gave me a boatload of new, formerly expensive plugins, and v4.5 which added another bunch of high-end plugins. why write a bugfix, when you are about to release the next version, a TOTAL rewrite. almost ALL Scope upgrades and ALL bugfixes(the latest being a Cubase4 ASIO patch) have been FREE. do you have v4.5? if so, v5 will be FREE. the last time i checked, Cubase, Cakewalk, Magix, M$, Adobe, Digidesign ALL charge for version upgrades...

shoot, Cubase 4, no SX3 has baugs, but instead of fixing them, Yamaha just released Cubase 5 and said, if you want the improvements(including the simple bugfixes) you must PAY.

You mean it's rock stable once you found ways to prevent it from crashing? From my short experience (some months) I can say it's full of bugs and can crash pretty often. I know that I can workaround some of the issues but the list is quite large is seems. Not to mention the STM cable hardware connection losses

Mmh, I thought I mentioned the version number in my initial post? So where are the bugfixes? I just found this Cubase ASIO patch on their website (which is even needed in other hosts to prevent the ASIO driver from crashing in certain circumstances) ...

if Scope crashes AT ALL, you likely have not set up your computer properly.

you don't have a soundcard, man. you have real audio tools. Pro Tools HD @ $30-40,000 has nothing on Scope except the dedicated hardware controller. in fact, Scope can do many things that PTHD can NOT do. guess what, PTHD has some bugs and quirks too.

the windows environment itself has bugs for crying out loud!

listen. if you can't leave your computer running all week long without a crash, if it's risky to not save your work as you go, your computer isn't configured properly, you have faulty hardware, there's corrupt software, or you're using cracks(or all or some of the preceding). that's a fact, whether you're a newbie or an IT expert. i'd love to help you get you machine working properly, but if you don't like the card, fine. not everything is for everyone.

not using the thing properly can make trouble as well. Scope must be open, with the project you want use opened BEFORE opening the sequencer. the sequencer must be closed BEFORE Scope and whenever the project is changed. ASIO modules cannot be changed while the sequencer is open, neither can sequencer midi modules(connections to them can be changed anytime as much as you like). other modules can be put in the routing window as much or as little as you like, depending on available dsp resources. the reason for this is that Scope is a virtual reality room. the modules are the physical JACKS for the sequencer, the card's i/o and any other device used. the sequencer is, in effect, a multitrack recorder inside the Scope room. to remove the ASIO module when the sequencer is open is the equivilent to making the jacks on your 8 track disappear in real life. it can't happen, so the program crashes from the logic error. this is an example of knowing what NOT to do, that is not a bug, that Scope is ROCK STABLE other than.

v4.5 was ALREADY in existance when S/C took over the platform. they have since written v5. why would they be working on bugfixes when they're about to release the new version? no one does or will do that. they don't owe you any such thing.

anyway, no bugfix is needed, since v4 Scope works GREAT! if Scope's not GREAT on YOUR computer, it needs to be set up properly. having left and right switched on the MONITOR is no big deal at all.

This is the bugfixing you're asking for though, and that's a complaint?. Cubase4 brought changes that necessitated the updated ASIO driver, as Scope 4.5 came BEFORE Cubase 4. Any other sequencers experiencing similar issues would be due to the fact that the ASIO spec is published by Steinberg...

Does the Cubase Patch fixes problems with the STM2448? No.

i've been making money with that mixer since v3.0, and i can honestly say that that bug has mattered exactly naught. not ONE client has been unable to complete a project, or indeed, has even known that the bug existed. it's not an issue. there are other things that are much more important, and some of them really NEED to be fixed. we'll have to see what v5 brings. if that mixer bug is the worst thing about the software, you should be pretty happy, though. there are bigger bugs in PTHD and plenty of big acts are using that.

the only help you need in this matter is an improved attitude, if i were to speak to you frankly. see? you're recieving help right now. if you weren't so surly, i and others might have been able to have already begun helping with the issues that make your system crash-o-rama, instead, my munites set aside from my day to help others for free, are spent on bickering and curses.

as you like it, sir(or madam).

Did I say anywhere that this bug is my biggest issue with the software? No.
