Good phaser
Good phaser
Hi...
I'm looking for a very good phaser... Free would be nice but if THE good one is not free, I may pay for it...

Re: Good phaser
probably not what you expected, but here's a bunch of those...
and in case one of our developers happens to peek... feel inspired
cheers, Tom

Thanks....!
But a one for SFP I forgot to say !

Re: Good phaser
sure - I knew, but couldn't leave the opportunity to post the link
if the SFP stock paser sounds to clinicical (?) in your ears, you will find something in Flexor and in SpaceF's collection.
the hardware devices from the link above add lot's of character by artifacts of the analog processing, their 'sound' is not just the phase shifting in the signal.
I have no idea, if that part of the story can be emulated (or rather should it be at all ?), but it's what makes the items relatively sought today, at least some of them.
cheers, Tom

Re: Good phaser
I'd go with Flexor, or with the Psy-Fi collection of Orbitone. Orbitone is a project of, amongst others, John Cooper (planetz) and Assaf Dar (Adern, Flexor). The Psy-Fi collection has a real distinct flavor. Or 3 flavors, actually: a phaser, a flanger, and something in between
Hey Neutron, would you mind updating DePhaser's device link here? (i've sent him a PM)
Also Celmo has a little phaser gem IMO, check the Radio Caroline Supa Fazz!

Re: Good phaser
Those are are excellent choices.
I love phasers, they are like EQ's. The more, the merrier.
Also try the deceptive SSB Modulator.
It's presets are misleading, and need to be tweaked for the desired taste.
It's like having a L & R Phaser, and there's also an SSB Phaser.
I enjoy mixing the dry/wet signals to get the flavor I like.
Below is an example of a 50/50 ratio of dry and wet on a tweaked SSB Modulator preset.

Re: Good phaser
i'm still waiting for someone (Mehdi?) to make an mxr phase90/100. These were the best phasers ever made - a stereo version would be amazing. Another good one was the Marshall Time Modulator - that i would love to see in software.
Re: Good phaser
Mehdi always seems up to the task at hand.
I used a Small Stone on my Rhodes for years and loved hitting a chord then tweaking the rate switch, I blame Josef Zawinul for that, R.I.P.
The reason why Mehdi is a perfect candidate for such chores is because one can use his CC8, CC5, and CC2 or the Wax-Control device that takes a crappy expression pedal and makes it do what you want as a rate or depth controller for Phaser/Wah-Wah's, etc.
+1 Brotha' Man Mr.Arkadin.

Re: Good phaser
The phasers in SFP has too few allpass stages - you should have aleast 8+ stages or 14+ stages in different stereo structures. And preferable some non-linearity modulation.
Listen to the unique resonance Phaser sound at the beginning - http://jhaible.heim.at/mp3/jh_sec_2.mp3
You could combine different SFP phaser in series.

Re: Good phaser
Brotha' Man Warp69,
That's awesome..
I love the synths and the effects equally.
Please tell me what that was you were using.
I love filtered, phased, resonated effects like that.

Re: Good phaser
You have good taste, Jimmy, but it was only for demonstration purpose. Its Jurgen Haible - The second Loop.XITE-1/4LIVE wrote:Brotha' Man Warp69,

The only digital things in that clip was the Quantec QRS reverb and Line6 DL4 - the synths OB-8/Modulars/CS-50 and the phaser Schulte/Krautrock (8 stage with incacandecent lamp/LDR sweep) are all analogue - it was recorded directly to DAT.

Re: Good phaser
Thank you all... I'm waiting for the orbitone psy-fi, looks nice... And I bought also the vorb vocoder, after reading a lot of nice things about it here... I'm waiting for the shop mail... I think they don't work on saturday..
Re: Good phaser
I could probably make a 24 stage phaser (controllable for left and right channel) - feedback with analog type filter etc.
But some one else has to make the graphics, presets handling etc.

Re: Good phaser
For anyone interested in more info on the Jürgen Haible Schulte Compact A Phaser that Warp69 is referring to, Jürgen Haible has his own forum Jürgen Haible designs on electro-music.com where there's tons of information on his designs & for DIY folks there's also parts kits available from JH himself for a lot of them. The Schulte Compact A Phaser thread (all 21 pages of it) is HERE

I'd be willing to help with that if you like Warp.Warp69 wrote:I could probably make a 24 stage phaser (controllable for left and right channel) - feedback with analog type filter etc.

Re: Good phaser
Apparently I was wrong - it will only be 18 stages per channel. The stock phaser has 6 stages.Shroomz~> wrote:I'd be willing to help with that if you like Warp.Warp69 wrote:I could probably make a 24 stage phaser (controllable for left and right channel) - feedback with analog type filter etc.

It has the following parameters :
- * Number of stages - Left (4-18)
* Number of stages - Right (4-18)
* Feedback (-100% - 100%)
* Lowpass (0 - 255)
* Dry (0% - 100%)
* Wet (0% - 100%)
* Modulation Freq
* Modulation Shape (-255 - 255)
* Modulation L/R Phase (0% - 180%)
Im almost done. Any requests?
Shroomz, how about you? It should be a mind blowing awesome interface - your best

You could have different numbers of stages for left and right, like 9 for left and 12 for right to achieve the Eventide Stereoizing Phaser if you supply a mono signal.
Re: Good phaser
Count me in.

Re: Good phaser
I'd be willing to help w/ any R & D funding if necessary.
Especially knowing that the 2 of you are involved, I would consider it an honor.
I was contemplating using the 12 stage Moog pedal since I recently took my 20 year old T.C.Electronics Chorus Pedal and routed it via the A16U into a project w/ great results.
When I first started using the Scope cards I tried the analog I/O's of a PCM70 I was using and didn't like it, so I got the 81/91's w/ the AES/EBU I/O's which was much better.
So I was somewhat shocked when I heard the T.C. Pedal which sounds real warm/clear compared to my other chorus effects. I suppose reverbs need a cleaner path when using the analog I/O's.
BTW Shroomz, I believe you were at your Apex of ideas with the XTreme Cut design. An incredible looking and sounding device.
I hope you guys decide to kick the tires and light the fires...
I know I post silly shit all of the time and and considered a clown, but when it comes to sound effects, synths and cash, I am serious as a heart attack.
I actually quit school in 3rd grade because they had recess,.......and I don't play.

Re: Good phaser
Thats not necessary at all - since the R&D are already finished. Now it's time for extensive beta testing and tweaking - you are more than welcome to help out with that.XITE-1/4LIVE wrote:I'd be willing to help w/ any R & D funding if necessary.
Re: Good phaser
I shall electrocute it w/ MIDI CC's and use it in every audio test I can conjur up.
Of Course I want to test it.
I don't have school until Monday, and only play Piano for a few hours 3 nights a week.
But at 2:00 today I will be listening to a Scoper at http://www.vombatradio.com/....
