studio reviews - potential new forum

I'm about to get a bunch of new kit to improve on my existing setup and thought It might be useful to post a sort of studio review. Its always nice to read reviews of individual kit but often what we want to know is how well things work together.
I'd start with a "first impressions" review, how it was setting it up and then later, after use go into more detail, maybe with a update in a few months. Like a long term review.

If others then posted their studios as a new topic, people could ask the studio owner questions relating to individual bits of kit or general configuration questions. It also helps to contextify responses to questions when you know the environment the person is using a peice of equipment.

I think to prevent it from being rather off topic, the studio should at least involve a creamware product in it.

The purpose would be to
-help inform potential buyers of new kit on its suitablity based on real world examples
-help existing users get the best of their setup

I dunno about others, but I find some of the most interesting stuff in magazines is when u get users getting studio makeovers or when they examine professional musicians studios. Cos when it comes down to it, the magazines reviews are interesting to get a general vibe about a product, but never really show you what you can do with it.

Hi,

I'm not pro a new forum here about that, but an extension of one's profile like on Tomshardware would be nice: each user could include his setup (and computer configuration) in the profile. Would be nice for troubleshooting, when we often have too little information: Which OS has the poster? What motherboard and periferals does he have which could interfere? ...

So I'd suggest to extend one's profile to include some setup/rig/...

Yes, I think that we could add some photos or screenshots in order to understand how each studio owner handles his/her gear.

i don't want any more forum discussions, unless they are directly related to creamware products and even then....

but the idea you hit upon atomic sounds like a really good un!

dancetech (i don't like the vibe thar) has something aproximating this for its users profiles which i like.

it also give you the ability to upload yer tracks (which are streamed) to yer profile.
but the bandwidth and fidelety restriction is pretty weak.

john doesn't seem to have that sort of restraint (bandwidth, server space) here

as i was reading the motivations orbita gave us for his new forum request, i thought 'what a good idea, but there's already been a debate on this issue'. imo, atomic came with the perfect solution.

I think Computer/studio setup and even a picture as part of the users profile is a good idea.

A new forum about studios might be a bit to OT though.

Yes, I see validity in atomics response and certainly having information about your system as part of your response profile would help contextualise information people give.

The main reason I think I suggested this is because there are allot of posts throughout the forums that discuss appropriateness of pulsar for pro recording, how to get the best out of certain configurations and queries regarding purchasing hardware that often marked Off Topic.

I think the biggest reason not to do this is because it broadens planetz and its focus is essentially creamware/pulsar. I also tend to agree that a new forum is unnessecary

Maybe these posts would be suitable for the tech talk forum - it could be renamed to

"tech talk and studio hardware"
PC and Studio Configurations, etc, etc

or something.

Anyway, ill post in there when I put my review together. Unless anyone recommends otherwise
