Maximum length Z-link Cables

My controlroom and computerroom are 15 meter away from each other. At the moment I work through ADAT on 48 Khz but now with the new X-Cite coming and the better i7 CPU's i would like to start with running 96 KHz.

I use 2 A-16's which are located in the controlroom, connected to all the outboard. And i understand if I want to keep all channels of the A-16's. I need to use the Zlink connectors.

So the question is, Is it possible to use Z-link cables of 15 meter?
and, is Z-link (apart from the protocol) not the same as Firewire?

no, it's not the same, although a firewire repeater, might work for z-link, in which case 15 meters is no problem. one way z-link is similar is that there is definitely a limit to the cable length. not sure exactly how long is too long, i'd bet the length of available firewire cables is a clue....

As Garyb said, it should be possible with extenders if it works the same as firewire,

I also read that firewire 800 can go up to 30 meters instead of 4,5 meter for FW400.

I believe it's gonna be trial-and-error for this one since no one has seen it work.

my guess is it wouldn't work...
'relaying' the packets over 2 extender nodes will certainly have an impact on performance and may require additional programming - opposed to the end-to-end communication of the box with the card
