Just in case you are testing...you may want to use other audio material.

I doubt grandma's mp3's are going to be affected (does she even know what that means?) and to those 'out there' who may have 'lost' some of their collection, you're 'leet' enough to leech a prebeta win7 from torrent trackers but you're tagging with media player? Seriously?

Incidentally I find even the current versions of Media Player to work better on old hardware than VLC and other modern alternatives (we'll completely ignore Nero/Roxio/WinDVD etc's horrible bloat here).

Actually overall my impressions of Win7 so far (Technet subscription) are far better than Vista64. Quad Xeon with 8GB ram and I'm still avoiding my Vista64 partition, mostly out of lack of need. Xp64 & Xp32 are handling my needs fine, Xp32 still for the majority of things which is ironic as I'm only using 40% of my installed ram. No massive soundsets here though of course...

Test results are in. Windows 7 beta performance is very similar to Vista and uses the same amount of RAM. It probably will be better when it is officially released. I'm using Vista 64-Bit now. Daw benchmarks show similar performance between Vista and XP.

My friend bought a new Vista notebook computer for his daughter and he said Vista was so slow that he had to exchange it for XP. After questioning him, it turns out that computer didn't have enough RAM and it did not have a dedicated graphics card with RAM. Why would anyone buy something so expensive without doing any research? Because of all the negative publicity about Vista, he blamed Vista. His opinion of Vista is still the same even though I explained his blunder to him.

I saw that today. I wonder if they bought some of the tech from BIAB. Trying to compete with Apple Garage Band in a way. I wonder how many people will use this more than once. Too bad it sounds canned.

wow this is geniouse!
analyzing tons of different song melodies, they are probably trying to break the code for a successful pop song...
lets hope it comes quick so people get back to listening to real music

now really this is genoise. analyzing audio coming in and determining its scale and tonality properties...

My friend (an artist) told me that quote.

It's a great concept but unless you could mangle or alter the genres into something more original, no good can come from this. I wonder if it lets you export as midi. Britney sounds better than than that!

if you can make yourself forget that MS is serious about that (songsmith), watching the video is all funny... :)

braincell - you can do many things with such an "analyzer" besides composing silly songs.
for instance - finding the scale and tonality of dog barks, car engines and so on :>

or maybe making an algorithmic composition tool that affects its own tonality

with a proper initialisation vector and a loop from output and input you can even make it an endless self triggering engine which may be used for live composed on-hold music for your company phone lines... :D
