Sonar MIDI instrument routing... am I missing something!?

Post by chriskorff »

Hi all,

I've just started working in XTC mode (which is great - I love it!) but as a consequence, I'm having to learn how features in Sonar that I'd previously ignored (as they were redundant in SFP mode) work...

The main thing is this: How can I get *one* MIDI track to play several soft synths?

Cheers!

does that work? As far as I`m concerned, you have to copy the track and specify your instruments ans tracks for using different midi channels.Or you configure the xtc.pro but I wonder if it`s a good point to set up every instrument for the same channel.

I don't use Sonar, but in theory (based on general modern sequencing techniques & despite using some more CPU resources), it should also be the most versatile way. It's the best way to send the same midi sequence to several drum, synth or sample voices for example, simply because it gives you the ability to vary things on a per note, bar, multiple bar or whole track basis by adding randomization of timing, velo, AT or whatever you want. You can also easily drop something in or out from the created 'stack' as you wish within the sequence. I'm sure Chris, knows all of that though & that he's probably just looking for the specific methods of doing it in Sonar, which only a Sonar user can help with.
