Has anyone here tried Ejamming?
http://ejamming.com/ (free beta)
I can't get my linksys port open according to the software, also it requires me to disable the linksys firewall which I don't think is a very good idea.
There is other software which is open source for playing over the internet called ninjam which I have not tried.

Re: Ejamming
I'd also check out Indaba.
Also, I find ninjam a little toyish, and gets unstable running heavy traffic (in my experience on a high-bandwidth link).

Thanks
Re: Ejamming
for testing purposes it should be sufficient to have 26900 outgoing open. if you do not filter outgoing traffic and have everything from your inside networked NATed by the linksys it is supposed to work already if you just want to join a 2 party session.braincell wrote:I can't get my linksys port open according to the software, also it requires me to disable the linksys firewall which I don't think is a very good idea.
if you want to be initiator of a session, your linksys has to accept connections on 26900 from outside (which does not mean disabling your firewall completely) and have that port forwarded to the machine that runs the ejamming software in addition to having 26900 open in outgoing direction.
if you have a personal firewall running, you'd have to enable 26900 incoming (and maybe outgoing) as well. in either case.
which linksys model do you own?

I joined a session and it said my port was disabled no matter how I set up port forwarding etc. but I could hear the other musician. I didn't try to play. I wonder if ninjam is this complicated. I probably don't have a fast enough DSL anyway. I think this would be less critical in ninjam.

Is there a click track intro?
This would be a great way to have rehearsals on my trips to Vegas.
After working for 6 nights w/ the same people, being w/ them on your day off to rehears is a drag.
On weeks off I don't even want to see them, that way I might miss them, and grow a new appreciation of their talents.
Having a band last a year is a successful example, it isn't easy.
Just like sex, you tell your partner(s) how nice things are, the best you ever had, and as time goes by you seek eversion elsewhere.
Very similar as seperating usually results in a financial setback temporarily too.
If this really works could someone post an mp3.
I wouldn't mind trying it either in a couple of weeks.
BTW, 25msec.'s is painful, what could I expect from Ninja-mm?
Cheers, Nice Thread ( so far ).

Re: Ejamming
I haven't actually used either one but I know people who do. I have listened to people playing live with ninjam for an hour with no audible dropouts. The delay is time based and as I understand it, it is very easy to get used to. On the face of it I would think that ninjam would be better for me, rather than having a 30 millisecond or more delay as in ejammer because the delay is time based.

Re: Ejamming
well, according to the website you would have been able to contribute, since you were not the initiator. don't know how to open specific ports on the linksys, but that can't be too complicated. I might take a look into the manual...braincell wrote:WRT54GL

Re: Ejamming
They have a site for it which lists how for nearly every router and application but this still resulted in the port not available message. It is a good bookmark to have though!

Re: Ejamming
the latencies are long with all of them. i considered using those programs for rehearsal and recording, but they're not practical. realtime technology certainly exists, but not at any reasonable quality at the consumer bandwidth in my experience. i'm definitely interested if there's any other experience with a system that actually works for nearly free out there!XITE-1/4LIVE wrote:Is there a click track intro?

i think those programs/systems are cool and could be fun, they just seem unsatifying to me. they're literally like playing with a bunch of guys waaaaayyyyyyyyyy over there, even when they're just across town. getting acrosss the internet can be tricky, as i understand it.
Re: Ejamming
mh. neither I do not understand why you have to disable the firewall (and this is not even completely, because multicast and ident is still filtered on that walkthrough), since you could just open the ejamming port incoming, but maybe the configuration scheme is not capable of a manipulation like this (so sad...), nor why it would not work after you configured this.braincell wrote:They have a site for it which lists how for nearly every router and application but this still resulted in the port not available message.
do you have static addresses assigned to your inside hosts? this is necessary, so I assume you did, of course...
