Hoping you guys can help.

Post by xenigma »

This isn't a Scope problem but I'm hoping that a kind soul can help. A friend and I are working on demos. He's in UK and I'm in Germany so we send files back and forth. He uses a Tascam 2488 and I'm using Logic Audio 5.5/Scope Project. Our particular problem is that the Tascam seems incapable of producing a mixdown track which starts exactly at the beginning. When I receive his files I have to spend ages cropping or trying minimal movements left or right in the arrange window in an attempt to get them into sync with Logic's metronome. This is important for me as I'm doing the drums/drum-programming so I need the tracks I'm playing along to to be perfectly in time (once I've completed the drum track I send this back and he then re-records the instruments over the top). When I send him files I just set the in and out points in the arrange window before bouncing the tracks which results in a file which begins and stays exactly in sync. Does anyone have any experience of this problem and in particular with the 2488? I'd love to be able to tell my friend which buttons to hit so that we can get rid of this problem as it's really obstructing things. Perhaps there is a much easier way of doing things? :)

I'd never heard of that until now and had to go Google. Sounds interesting. Doesn't help with my immediate problem but thanks for letting me know :)

Thanks Gary. I downloaded a copy of the 2488 manual in the hope that four eyes would be better than two but I also failed to find the section where this is explained. I'll have another read.

i don't know, but there may be an export clip and export track, or similar...maybe the problem is in the terminology, i didn't know that it could export a track in any way except starting at 0....

That's right Gary, the 2488 always defaults to zero. On reflection I think the problem may have more to do with his technique rather than with the machine's capabilities. He uses it like an old cassette player - hit record, adjust creaking seat, pick up guitar, light a cigarette and then start playing at some point and this is the point I have to find when I receive his WAV files. In Logic Audio I get a full bar of lead-in before anything is recorded. Nice and easy for him as all he needs to do is pull the WAV onto the 2488 and it lines up exactly. If anyone can tell me whether it is possible to record stuff on a 2488 as I can with Logic Audio I'd be really grateful as trying to work like this is really frustrating...
