Hi all,

This thread is a Hardware Wishlist where you can post ideas/concepts, visual mockups & designs of hardware which you'd like to see being realized & manufactured as musical instruments. You can either post images (800x600 max size please) &/or written descriptions of your musical instrument ideas.

Ok, what about a dsp based digital mixing desk designed to compliment XITE-1.

Something along the lines of:-

- XITE-1 compatible dedicated hardware mixing console.
- Connects to XITE-1 via XTDM bus or can run standalone.
- Same dsp power as XITE-1
- 33 motorized faders (24/48 ch + 8 buss channels).
- 8 flexible mono/stereo switchable AUX sends (INT/EXT switchable. INT allows loading of 3rd party plugins).
- Open system which allows you to load your own choice of Insert Effect plugins per channel including busses & mix ch. (SC default or dependent on your licensed or free plugins installed).
- 32 balanced channel inputs (with 24/96 AD converters).
- 16 mic channels (with built in preamps & 24/96 AD converters).
- Digital I/O options (adat x 32, z-link x 16 min, spdif &/or AES/EBU)

I wanted an ASB way back when of a mixer, that went over like a Turd in a Punchbowl.

Hardware interface for XITE-1 is exactly what we could use.
I was looking into this already as I wanted to be a large room PA Rental guy and have an XITE-1 w/ powered cabinets, and a hardware controller like Gamble or Steinberg have.

First we need an XITE-1.
Sounds to me like you could also use one.

How about a mock up soon with your famous GUI tricks.

That's a nice idea to start off with, though I'd like to see it have something more special over other mixers. In the idea of modular layouts that Creamware introduced, it'd be nice if that mixer came in an extendable frame that you can add more 8ch modules to, pretty much as many as you like. Each of those modules should bring its own added share of DSP power, too. And, what I think would be really sweet, if there were 4 optional HD slots and two monitor and USB connectors to turn that mixer into a full fledged standalone recording solution, with up 32ch per hd. That'd make such a modular and dsp power fed mixer really worthwhile.
And, while we're at it, let's have it not just one knob per channel to dial in parameteres, but 6 or so, and with basically hardwired sets of controls and little backlit indicators for the parameters the are currently controlling next to them, so you can switch between, say, EQ, dynamics, AUX sends, routing (yes, how about not just switching the channels to the different busses, but blend them like you could with AUX sends?).
And the meterbridge should be switchable to show RTA and phase in realtime instead of levels.
How about that?

I like your idea of being able to add xtra 8ch mixer modules, but it might add dsp management issues. I also like the idea of being able to link/slot in HD's & a monitor or 2, but I had thought of such a mixer as being controlled from software on the same computer as your XITE-1, be it a desktop or laptop. Perhaps it would even be nice to control it via software on a separate desktop or laptop system.

That all sounds pretty good. I didn't go into details about a possible control interface & it's ergonomics, but having something logical & easy to navigate is paramount. I quite like what Spirit did with one or two of their digital desks in terms of a paged interface/surface design, but agree that having a series of paging knobs per channel would be nice even although it would significantly add to the overall size & cost of such a device.

Probably because the ASB hardware was underpowered for building a decent mixer with.

My wish is for Sonic Core to drop Xite-1 and just maKe a simple Scope Home for PCIe. Devopment of the other products has adversely affected core users!

Who is "we" Jimmy? I don't earn over $250,000 a year like you do and I don't think many people in this group do. The Xite-1 is not relevant.

I understand your frustration, but " we " are the ones who support the SC Team in whatever they do. Their unique products are the future, I support the developers and the platform.
Because of their foresight for a big leap forward w/ new hardware, I will buy and earn money with it. This can only help others who do not wish to spend the extra coin for such a new idea, but at the end of the day, there will probably be a smaller, cheaper version available later, that you can also complain about.

Your consistent position and unhappiness is welcome IMHO. This forum is a great place to post opinions and examples, positive or negative.
I look forward to your future negative posts with open arms.

And as usual you have your facts wrong. As a contractor I gross that amount, but pay for insurnace, agents fees, kick backs, salaries and expenses. But yes, to a liberal person as yourself, I am rich. When actually my motivations provide incomes and benefits for others.

Thats absolutely not correct - I need the Xite-1 system and so do others. Maybe from your pov a smaller PCIe version with two DSPs is the perfect solution, but that doesn't make the Xite-1 system irrelevant.

Im looking forward to the release of the Xite-1.

there are some things not suitable to do on DSP which need CPU of some kind. that is why hardware synths, beatboxes etch have a CPU as well as the DSP.

If there was some kind of bridge so programs running on something like MAX/MSP or Reaktor could directly control atoms, then you could make complex reaktor type instruments, but with the DSP realtime sound.

Normally it's a micro controller instead of a CPU - CPUs is too expensive

I like the way my Scope is, I just need a little more power. I don't need 100 times more power. I need 3 or 10 times more power.

The Scope home card has 3 chips not 2 so add 1 or 2 more chips perhaps (they ought to be getting cheaper) and PCIe. The world's economy is about to fall on it's ass and they come out with this XITE .... Brilliant!

I will be waiting to see how the depression affects Nevada.

I would love to have heard the rational behind it. They were thinking this is really cool or were they thinking since it costs so much they would make more money? Who is this made for?

I do enjoy your posts Braincell, and I have been here for every depression and prophetic outlook imaginable.
We will always have Casinos and live entertainment. The casinos actually spend more when times are tough to draw more folks into town.
The conventions and legal prostitution are totally unique and I love workin' girls. They spend money on musicians more than a record company. Many of my devices from developers carry thier names.
I think you will get what you want in time, and I am sure you will use it wisely.
But SC is gambling w/ XITE-1 & Solaris, and I am a gambler. Plus I want to sound better than the next guy. You should know that tax write offs are a way of life. Upgrading keeps money in my pocket, and punishes the weak. I plan on winning, so that's my Huckleberry.
You're right about the release coming at a bad time, but it just depends on who buys it I suppose.

I really think you should check out Synthetic 88's sore dick deal at the purchase thread. You might like the price.
They were used to create the original GSIF drivers for Gigastudio when Nemesys owned it.

I'm planning on selling off about 1/3rd of my studio and consolidating it (per se) with an Xite and a laptop.
That's one way I'm handling the so-called 'depression'. Simplifying and purging what I don't use much anymore.

I've said it before, I'll say it again - hardware is EXPENSIVE to develop, and SC has to develop the DSP and firmware/software on top of it, so it's predictable that Xite is designed to get SC and it's customers a head start in this particular market.

For SC to spend their money on developing a PCI-e that would have to compete in the marketplace with the RME's out there, would be stupid at this point in their business model, since there is a lot of overhead in getting the OS, DSP, etc. all sorted out, and a cheap, Home PCI-e card would not be practical at this time. There's just no money in it right now. Maybe in the future, who knows.

So, I think your options are:

• Buy more used older Scope boards and slide them into your DAW and get more DSP horsepower that way.
  Get the VST Flexor you now crave (if I recall correctly), and a PCI-e RME card and move on

In perspective, I've probably spent around $10K on Scope stuff over the past 10 years since I got my first PulsarI - which I still have in my FOURTH DAW computer - and the price of Xite instantly gives people that same horsepower and more for much less. It's equity over time.

SC's option is to take a very different entry approach into this market rather than grovel in the low/mid-range markets already glutted with the RME's, Maudio, Lynx, etc. etc. out there - and none of them (no matter how good they may be) offer the same features as Scope.
