Macos9.2.1>DP>SCOPE>sudden clicks and pops - unusual

Post by edmann »

Greetings EXPERTS -

After years of running this rig successfully, suddenly out of nowhere I am getting clicks and pops in the audio when recording. Whether streaming in thru ADAT, or - most dreaded - when processing audio tracks (or track) thru SCOPE effects and recording back into Digital Performer - clicks and pops. Since I have worked successfully in these ways for years, I am stumped - stymied - cannot find solution, so far.

Thanks in adavance for your input! I appreciate it very much.

Have you tried the obvious things like re-seating the boards, perhaps carefully cleaning the connectors? Checked the STDM cable if you have one? Jiggled all the ADAT connectors?

Back in the day i used OS9.2.2 - don't know if that made a difference (it was a while back).

Have you installed any new software lately?

Ciao Ed :)
I'm not a Mac expert but in the pc world the few reasons I have encountered for clicks and pops are from:
1) hard disc almost full and/or fragmented
2) USB sharing IRQ's with Scope card, but I don't know if this can be a Mac problem or not.
3) Video Card taxing the system too much.

Anyway, if nothing changed, the hard disk could be the culprit....

G4 450 - forget it's pet name, a generation after sawtooth - with an OWC 1200 mhz processor upgrade and 1.25 GB RAM running OS 9.2.1

I rolled back from OS 9.2.2 because I read (here, I think) that Scope may like 9.2.1 better and I used to have some problems in 9.2.2

thanks again

well, assuming you (probably) used the classic Mac method of keeping a copy of the previous environment, I wouldn't expect install forward/backword problems.
If the system has been physically installed, then I wouldn't hold my breath on the reliability of the process (under any late #9 system), though.
Anyway 1.2 G Ram is pretty much for the box and most likely made up from different sets.
A Ram slot may have contact problems, or a faulty chip might be possible sources.
Remove and re-insert, and if it doesn't change a thing, try with only some of the memory Dimms.

cheers, Tom

thanks Tom

odd thing is that I have had no previous problems like this, with the same setup

but the recording disk is pretty full, it's level of fragmentation considerable - all being remedied now.

film at 11...

thanks again
