How can I connect 4 synths to Scope?

Post by Inferman »

Hi there, Scope community team.

I'm sorry if this question was already asked here, but I didnt find it :-(

The problem is following:
I have Scope Project Plus (6 DSP) with XLR I\O.
I have three (4 soon) hardware synths.

So ... how can I connect it to send and control each of synth separately?
I mean I can connect my hardware synth to XLR Scope inputs and then I link Pulsar Analog Sourse to STM 1632 (in Routing Window) so I can use synth with Creamware plugins (delay, reverb) but its only one synth ... How can I do the same with each of three (and four) synth?

If I buy external mixer I connect it to creamware with one pair of XLR anyway so it wouldn't the thing I want.

Please help :)

You need adda converter like the a16 (ultra) or behringer ada8000

Thanx for advices!

I have M-audio UNO cables so I link my synths to computer via USB.

So, I need AD\DA converter ... and as I understand it could be Creamware AD\DA or any other.

When I connet AD\DA to Scope I will able to link each of its outs to separate STM stereo channel, is it correct?

From what I understood, you are looking for a way to input the audio signal of your synths in your scope project.
What you have is 3 (soon 4) hardware synth each with one stereo analog output.
Then you want to had some effects and mix the synth together within scope (and maybe add some scope synth).
So what you need is a solution to get 8 audio signal in your scope board.
The analog audio input you have with your svope project board is only stereo (2 audio signal).
But you also have other digital input with your board (1 SPDIF input and 2 ADAT inputs).
What you need there is a analog audio in to adat converter.

What can be used is:
- SM PRO AUDIO AO 8: 8 analog in to ADAT (156 € new)
SM PRO AUDIO AO 8

- BEHRINGER ADA8000 PRO-8 DIGITAL: 8 analog in to ADAT + 8 ADAT to analog out (209 € new)
BERHINGER ADA 8000
BERHINGER ADA 8000
ADA 8000.jpg (33.14 KiB) Viewed 2763 times
or some more advanced and often more expensive analog to ADAT converter
The "old" creamware A8 (8in+8out) and A16 (16in+16out) would also do the job if you can get a used one.

Another solution would be get you a creamware interface like the A16 Ultra burt then you need to have the "Z-link" version of the scope project (not the "Classic" or the "Plus" version).

Finally another solution would be to add a Scope Home/Luna 3 DSP board + 1 LUNA 2496 I/O converter (this type of bundle cost me 200 € at the beginning of the year).
Scope Home + Luna 2496 IO
Scope Home + Luna 2496 IO
Scope home + Luna 2496 IO.jpg (13.12 KiB) Viewed 2761 times
It would provide you the 8 analog inputs you need (with cinch type connexion though), 8 analog outputs (also cinch) on the LUNA 2496 I/O.
Then you still have the stereo analog input of your scope project and the stereo analog input of the scope Home for futur use.
And you also get 1 extra MIDI IO in case you need two of them (one is already available on your scope project).
And last but not least you would get 3 extra DSP to add to the 6 you have on your Scope Project.

My 2 cents

That's not correct HUROLURA. He could connect an A16 Ultra to the ADAT inputs on his PLUS card. He'd only need the 'Z-link' I/O plate if he wanted to run his system @ 96kHz, but that wouldn't be a great idea with 6 dsps anyway, so....

The luna card + luna 2496 box option that you suggest is a good one & good bang for bucks. 3 xtra dsps & an 8 I/O ad/da box for 200 - 250 euro 2nd hand can't be sniffed at.

Shroomz is right-o.
I use the A16U's the exact same way as mentioned.
I have an extra daughtercard w/ 24 extra ADAT I/O's as well.
This is the ONLY way to input the hardware synths IMO. I have tried using analog I/O's on hardware effects, and synths and they sound h-anus. :P
You analog's will be able to access the high quality effects and routings inside of a Scope project which will give your hardware an incredible leap into the future.
I even route my hardware synths into Modular sometimes.
I really see no need for a hardware delay anymore.
There are some incredible loopers and delays in Scope that will launch your synth to the firmament.

The fact you have hardware synths is a big plus. Having DSP and analog together is an unbeatable hybrid of sorts. I could never do a gig w/o either of them actually, and wouldn't want to.

Which models do you possess?

Thanx everyone :) .

HUROLURA, thanx twice for clear and absolute vivid answer.

XITE-1/4LIVE, I have Virus C, Nord Rack 2, MicroKorg and waiting for Waldorf MicroWave XT.

So, it seems I'm going to find some AD\DA with enough I\O for my studio.
As I understand it will connect to SCOPE Project via SPDIF or ADAT digital inputs.

Does it mean I have to connect A16 (for example) with Z-link?

Or both SPDIF\ADAT and Z-link are acceptable?
If so what the difference between SPDIF and Z-link connections?

So can I take Creamware A16 without Z-link card?
Just link it with ADAT cables?

Let me just one more question.
Is there big difference between Creamware A16 Ultra and SonicCore A16 Ultra?
I know its the same company but I still can find both Creamware and Soniccore AD\DA hardware.

Thanx for the picture. You are quite right - creamware converter is uglier indeed :)

Stardust, yes, I have opportunity to buy as creamware A16 so and soniccore A16 in new condition in our music store.

Hi again.
I've got A16 Ultra and it works exactly as I expected - so I found it very useful gear to connect my synths to SC Scope Card ))

But now I have the following problem\question : A16 ultra has Input levels meter, it has indicators on -60,-12,-6,-3 and 0 dB levels. So the problem is my input level of any synth is always -60 (one green indicator lights), with any Master volume on synth with any level on Scope mixer - it always -60 dB, the mixer stm1632 shows several green bars and level -20 dB and it seems like it limited somewhy, I mean if I increase Master volume on my synth it doesnt make it louder for A16 Ultra or stm1632.

Could You explain the reason of such waek levels? I hope I dont need an amplifier or smth like for synths?
Thanx.

the A16 has pro level +4 i/o. synths are -20.

you can input the low levels and they'll be acceptable, or there are dip switches on the back which allow you to set the first 8 or the last 8 channels of the A16 to -20, which will give you better, more proper levels...
