This has something to do with voices or polyphony I believe?
I want to use 1 synth and 2 sounds from that synth on 2 different midi channels. Or do I have to load the synth 2 times then?

It seems to me that it's a basic question so if anyone has a link for me to a beginners explanation of midi modules I'm also very pleased.

Thanks all!

yes, you will have to load a second module to do this.
a good link? i don't think you need one... the manual will do for this purpose.

Load the synth twice and set to different midi channels. You'll also be able to set different polyphony.
Why not copy the synth and rename the copy so as to avoid confusion. You can save each device under a different default midi channel too.
Finally, watch out for some of the synths - some are quite greedy.

Load two synths... I hoped that wasn't necessay so I could save DSP power...

Too bad then I guess.

Thanks for the replies!

A lot depends on how often you'd want to play your sounds too. Simple bypass, also to save dsp: use a (simple) sampler instead of a synth.

You could make different sounds w 1 synth, but the keyfollower, midi CC#, ... would make it not easy to play either. If you want to play both simultaneous, you'd have to raise polyphony. Which could be heavier on dsp than loading 2 monophonic synths.

If you don't play them simultaneously, you could make presets and send bank/program changes. Keep in mind that preset changes (ie. Mod2) can block midi for a while.
