gigabyter dq6 p965
set all to ide and native.
also gigabyte sata controller set to ide.
i have on intel ide my c: and another 2 discks. on irqs14,15. i have disabled the second channel from divice manager.
i have connected external drives to the 2 sata of gigabyte onboard chipset set as well ide.
now.
there is a strange black screen when xp boots of about 10 to 15 seconds and the starup programs have a small delay with mouse movement corruptions
it is a situation much discussed in pc forums and there are many people complaining about this delay.
some say that is a spyware aor a malare, some talk about defrag and so on... and discuss never ends.
THIS IS FOR SURE NOW.
BUT WHAT IS IT???????????
when i have an external drive connected via sata on the gigabyte chipsets sata outs, and this drive is on, then xp boots like a spacecraft. i have made the stapwatch test and it is 15 to 16 secs faster and also the taskbar and startup programs icons appear as loaded almost instantly!!
no this is nonsense for me.
is there an answer?
pc restarts 15 secs faster when external drive is on????????
15 secs faster boot when gigabyte jmicron has a hdisk workin
15 secs faster boot when gigabyte jmicron has a hdisk working????????
to take advantage of the stuation i finaly plugued one of my internal hard disks on the gigabyte onbard controler and the system is fast this way, without the need having external disks on.
it is a matter of irqs i guess.
but the thing i do not understand is how can it be beneficial for booting speed (and perhaps other processes) if the gigabyte onboard controler is connected to a hard disk.

Re: pc restarts 15 secs faster when external drive is on????????
i have come to this conclusion even if i don'e like it much because in fact i do not like messing around with things on my pc.
it would have been much better if there were more ways and combinations of a pc setup to be fast and stable, but this is not possible.
there are many different ways for the pc to work ok, BUT JUST A FEW maybe 1 or 2 max configurations that make it work at its highest capability.
and it depends on things we have never thought about, as in my case the conection of the gigabyte controler to a disk, ar there might be another concerning usbs or lans or whatever.
some times i feel like windows are metaphisical

Re: pc restarts 15 secs faster when external drive is on????????
gigabyte dq6p965
6 sata ports controlled by ichr8
2 sata by gigabyte onboard chip.
i have tested this installing my c: in ichr8, as ide and also as raid with same results.
there is this behaviour: c: on ichr8 and: 1.when there is a hard disk on gigbytes sata port 1, then the os is faster booting and loading startup programs.
2.when there are 2 drives on gigabytes sata ports this does not happen, the os is slower.
3.when there are no drives on gigabytes sata ports, the os is slow again.
it becomes much faster when there is 1 hard disk connected on the 1st gigabyte sata port

Re: pc restarts 15 secs faster when external drive is on????????
yes, you are right, i can see this on the block diagram.
i do not understand though the reason, but i guess i do not have such deep technical knowledge.

Re: pc restarts 15 secs faster when external drive is on????????
by not been used as the os, but as storage (on the 1st sata slot only as i said)
Re: pc restarts 15 secs faster when external drive is on????????
maybe i will post a video, because it is very obvious. from the many icons that i have on desktop that appear fast to the fast speed and noise of the raptors that i use in raid0.
on the other situations, the raptors seem to go slower and desktop icons appear much sloewer in groups and also startup programs as well.
i don't know if this also affects performance in general away from booting, but maybe.
