newbie pci overflow problem

Post by dradisf »

hello i just started using scope,1 new project card as the master and 1 old pulsar 4dsp card as slave, and when i try to do a mix and i load any more than 8 or so 24 bit sources i get this pci overflow message telling me to change the project before resting the sample rate. this makes it impossible for me to do a mix cause i work with 30 plus tracks. IS there a solution??

Are you using the first connector from the Pulsar2(scope projekt) that means the one thats closer to the rear of the case,to connect the p1?
If you have 3 pci slots try the middle one for the scope projekt and the lower one for the p1.

I had to discard my type 1 cards because of this. Now I got it running with only type 2 cards but it took careful attention to slots and IRQ settings. They should be the same IRQ channel and USB could be on the same channel as the slots so you have to be careful of that. I think also I had one of my cards too close to the heatsink of my graphics card so I had to move it again. My Creamware cards have meant a lot of bad nightmares for me. It seems to be working alright now though.

Strangely enough (and as counterpoint) I have a Pulsar2 and a Pulsar1 (series 1 card). Each machine I've had the cards in I've been able to get things stable with a few hours of hand-mapping irqs and testing before taking the machine off its bench and putting the machine into its home. The current dual Xeon that's the 3rd home for the cards and is 100% stable including dual onboard u160 scsi with 2 10000rpm drives connected (1 for OS, 1 for recording), IDE drives for data storage & samples. Another user on these forums with the same board had a lot of troubles with this same board, I have had none and I don't think the board itself is defective, it's just a matter of starting with the basics and working up.

At the same time, Scope is a lot like other musical gear: it takes time to work your head around it & won't be for everyone. But consider if every guitar player used the same pickups, guitar, signal chain & amp--music would be much more boring for it. Or what if ever singer sang in the same register with the same intonation & technique?

915 made problems with the original Pulsar, though it should work slaved to a newer board.
I wouldn't waste a minute but sack it - if I remember correctly I paid just 50 bucks for a Gigabyte 946 which runs flawless with the old cards. I have to know because I have only old Pulsar Ones :D

what exactly are your irq assignments?

what, if anything, is sharing with the Scope cards?

well, that might help, so might a complete reinstall, os and all, repartition and format. you should DEFINITELY be able to run those 30 or so tracks.

yeah, maybe the originally slaved Pulsar One sneaked ahead and is trying to rule the system now... ;)

good luck, Tom

I bet if you take the old card out, everything will be perfect, also make sure no other device is using the same IRQ. Disable all things you don't need in the BIOS such as onboard audio etc..

yes, that would be a good idea to verify the source of the problem.
Just remove the Pulsar One and check if the required number of channels will then be processed - pure Asio doesn't need much DSP resources at all.
